Anyone ever try Lucas Top end Oil? 4 Years, 8 Months ago
Just wondered if anyone has ever tried the Lucas Top end oil and cleaner that you put in the tank to help keep the SVS away? Seems like it would do the same thing and it's only $5 a bottle to service 30 gallons.

You will have to wait for one of the experts on using Lucas in you Road*. I just thought I would put my 2cents in on using it autos. I use it all the time in my truck and car. Can give you some personal experiences about it if you are interested. To my point, you can purchase a 32 ounce bottle at WalMart for $7.99. I believe that will treat about 180 gallons. I need to save a few pennys when I can.

Tried it while I battled SVS (and won BTW). Didn't do a thing. I really like Lucas products, use them in my trucks, but to fight the carbon, get the 6 dollar can of seafoam, fill her up , dump it in, then go some place out of the way where you can bounce her of the limiter a few times , and generally ride it a little more aggressive than normal, and after that tank, you should find a cleaner set of valves. BB

Better than spending 18 bucks on ringfree, IMHO.

How did you finally beat the SVS? I'm battling my second time with "Y" on it now. Looks like I may have to kill the SVS myself. Just not sure where to start.

dseward,

I notice in another post that you said it was re-jetted by the dealer before you brought it home.

I suspect you are jetted too rich and you will continue to have this problem until you lean the jetting out.

I asked the dealer this morning if the jetting was the problem. He said he couldn't find anything on the service paperwork that showed rejetting. Just resetting the carb for the pipes since that was the only change. All they came up with was the idle might have been to low. Most of my driving is highway miles. So I don't know why the idle set would have made a difference.

What does "resetting" mean vs "rejetting"? Adjusting the PMS?

Almost all dealers re-jet when they put on pipes and they jet too rich.

The idle has nothing to do with your problem.

I had an old boat engine (350 chebby) that was carboned up real bad, I fed the seafoam product that BB mentioned straight into the intake manifold via a vaccum hose.. had to keep the rpm up so it wouldn't stall, then when the can was almost empty, I let the engine stall out and sit overnite.. next day cranked it up. boy did it smoke, but after a few minutes it was purring like a kitten..and been runnin good ever since.. not sure if this technique will work on the bike though..

I believe they just reset the PMS. Can't tell for sure until I look at my paperwork when I get home. I would think it would say something on there!

Back in my eighteen wheeler days, I used Lucas oil treatment and fuel treatment regularly. I have always thought it was great stuff. Haven't tried it in the bike, but do use MMO about every third tank, and have no doubt the Lucas would work just as good.
