back to the original question..........

I wouldn't have any hesitation to use Lucas in any kind of motor! Best on the market for the purpose that it is made for.

How did you finally beat the SVS? I'm battling my second time with "Y" on it now. Looks like I may have to kill the SVS myself. Just not sure where to start.

Probably gonna find that the problem is in the carb. Mine was killing me, even with stock jetting. Now, with the BAK and a jet job done right (I did it, with help from the peanut gallery ) it has been running fine for about 4 months/4000miles. You might have to get in there yourself and see what you have , and proceed from there. BB

I asked the dealer this morning if the jetting was the problem. He said he couldn't find anything on the service paperwork that showed rejetting. Just resetting the carb for the pipes since that was the only change. All they came up with was the idle might have been to low. Most of my driving is highway miles. So I don't know why the idle set would have made a difference.

When you say "most of my driving is highway miles" what speed are you running and what gear? I too, spend most of my time on the highway, and since I installed a tach, my beliefs have changed about that.

Highway speed around my part of the country are mostly 65 mph, with a little interstate every now and then at 75. Running at 65, or the allowed overrun at 70, my '07 is running around 2200 rpm to 2400 rpm in fifth gear. At that speed, any slowdown, or upgrade, or passing is lugging the engine IMHO. A shift down to fourth gear jumps the needle up to 3000 rpm, and the engine is definitely running easier the biggest share of the time. Without telling anyone how to drive, I think a lot of us are not allowing the engine to run at the higher rpm's, and this puts more stress on the engine to burn the carbon.

I just completed about 350 miles this morning running 67 mph including a lot of slight upgrades (some pretty good hills) and long stretches without any traffic. The roadie handles this just fine in fifth gear, running smoothly and easily with a nice quiet rumble in the exhaust.
After a little of this, I dropped down to fourth gear, set the throttle lock on the same 67 mph, and was impressed by how much easier the engine seemed to run. It ran at a good 2700 rpm, maintained the speed much better, and when needed it reacted to the throttle quick and with more authority.

Now, all that is just my opinion, and worth everything you paid for it. I know some of us old guys like the quiet sound of the big twin just idling along at the speed limit, but maybe that's not the best for the engine. Lord, he talks a lot, doesn't he?

I agree dryriver and it's especially relevant for 5th - that's overdrive.

It's so easy to get fooled by the torque the motor has and the nice put-put at low revs.

I used Lucas in my road*, and it worked great. I now have the carb rejetted and haven't had the need for an additive again.(knock on wood) I highly recommend the entire line of Lucas products and wouldn't hesitate to use them in my baby. The bottom line is, it's not going to hurt anything, so if you want to try it, go ahead. I would still have the carb looked at for a long term fix.

road burner, I use MMO all the time. About 4 oz. in every third tank just as a preventative. I also carry some in my saddle bag. My last long ride (2100 miles) I got some bad gas (?) and it run crappy, my gas milage went to h*ll and the power was terrible.
Luckily, that was the last tank that brought me home, but if that had been 3 or 4 days earlier, I would have been able to give it a shot of MMO. It would have run better, quicker, and I think would have been better on the engine.
I think I'll try the Lucas when I run out of MMO. Always liked it in the truck and pickup, just wasn't available when I bought the MMO.
