Spoke cleaning 10 Months, 1 Week ago
I was in Ottawa this weekend to bury my brother. While at a coffee shop, I saw this 20 year old kawi with spoked wheels that looked brand new. I asked the rider if he had just bought the wheels and he told me they were original. I was shocked. I asked him how he kept them so clean and he told me he used Easy Off over cleaner. Has anybody else done this? He did not have time to give me more details but I want to try it. I am worried about hitting the rubber with the oven cleaner. So, chime in if you have done this and let me know if by any chance you covered up the tires somehow.

Sorry about your brother...been there twice already. Also interested in the cleaning, as I have spokes that are a pain.

Keep it off any painted surfaces.

Never tried it, but I would worry about getting it in the wheel bearings or on the belt.

Isn't easy off a degreaser ? I'm sure there are other chemicals in it too. i use a citris based cleaner i bought in concentrate from a traveling salesman and it really does the job.

I used a acid type cleaner on my spokes and it oxidized them almost black so I would try a small spot 1st and don't let it get on the paint

Took my rear wheel in last week to have a new tube installed. Dealer used my old tube when I put my new metz on and the old tube gave out! Anywho, we got to talking about stuff and i mentioned that you just can't get the spokes clean. My parts guy said this kid that put my tube in could clean them in less than 5 minutes. I asked the kid what he used and he said his buddy was a chemical sales man and he bought this stuff from him. (He never would tell me what it was. He then took my wheel and tire to the shop and I went with him where he sprayed this stuff on my wheel ( generic spray bottle). As soon as he sprayed my wheel he picked up the powerwasher wand and sprayed it down. My wheel hasn't been that shiney since it was made!!!! He said he had been using it for years to detail bikes and cars. He said he has never had any paint problems, but he wouldn't leave it on paint for any time. He never would tell me what it was, but it sure works!!! I think I might pull my fron wheel off and take it by there!
