It's time for a major decision...need opinions 10 Months, 1 Week ago
The time has come to rebuild or replace my most trusted steed! If I rebuild I will build a 102". I have thought about purchasing a low mile engine and doing "other" stuff that I've wanted to do. Just undecided...what do I do? what do I do?
It doesn't help that this youthful looking Stratoliner S keeps my attention! I'm leaning toward the Stratoliner. I would just like some opinions

Depends on how much "disposable" income you can get your hands on.

What is the reason of the rebuild?

What is the reason of the rebuild? Top end getting louder. I replaced the lifters and related parts(cams, pushrods, etc) two years ago and the valve lash was marginal then. Money wouldn't allow me to do a full rebuild then. My gut feeling is back, you know that feeling some of us get when it's TIME. She has 55,000 miles on her and I'm hearing everything!

55,000 seems way early to me. I have an 05 with 42,000, and I feel like it's just getting broke in good. Mine has sounded like an old farm tractor from day one, but I've come to love all the different sounds it makes. Good luck with what ever you decide.

Love the orange color of your bike. If and when I repaint, I will be going with something similar to that.

55K is early. Many bikes on here have well over 100K some close to 200K without any rebuild. Maybe your used to "Tinkering" with them and may have caused some of the concern?? Maybe went tooooo long without an oil change, or overheated her a time or two?

55K is just too early for these bikes unless something has gone wrong, or if you put in some poor quality aftermarket parts... Just my .02 cents worth.

As I am not used to(I've owned my R* 4 years) all of that noise yet!..lol I just had to get the more experienced owners to calm my craziness! I love this bike and have plans for it. I also ride/race/build a Suzuki Hayabusa that has taken up a large portion of my time so far this year. And my lack of interaction with my beloved R* may be why I seem to hear so much! My OCD doesn't help either!..rofl

I bought the bike used with 35,000 showing and the lifter and cam on the front cylinder wore out and failed at 45,000 miles. The bike looked to be in great shape when I bought it but in reality I can't say it wasn't over heated at some time or other. The cam and lifter wear clearly indicated lack of oil. I haven't had any issues since and change oil religiously! Oil always looks good when changed. Again as stated in an earlier post, all of this craziness may be my OCD! But still, thanks I really appreciate everyones opinions.

Glad that some of you said 55,000 miles is to early. I've got 33,000 on my 08 and hope to get 100,000 before rebuild
