Light bars 6 Years, 4 Months ago
I'm planning to add a light bar to my 04 silverado. I've narrowed it down to either the factory bar or "Sophie's Motorcycle Works Light Bar". Because of the different look on the Sophie's (putting the spotlights BETWEEN the turn signals and headlight), I was wondering if any of you have installed them and if so, so you have any pics.. The Sophie's website has some pics, but some of the links are dead. Also, if anyone does have them, have you had any problems, especially with rattles or vibration. The Sophie's site also says the Yamaha bar is prone to breaking at the welds, anyone have any comments about that? Thanks for any info anyone shares.

I guess the welds could break if you failed to keep the tires to the blacktop, or some 500lb ape came swinging on them. My part is better than their part ploy.

I too would question the assertion that the stock Road* light bar is prone to cracked welds. I welded for eleven years in a naval shipyard starting back in 1973, and still have a good deal of welding equipment in my home shop. I just installed the stock passing light set on my 04 Road* midnight and am impressed with it's construction. One little problem with the install instructions though. It said to use the supplied spacers if it is installed without a windshield but I found that I had to use the spacers. My windshield is not a silverado but an aftermarket unit and that may have something to do with it but I don't think so. Still think it was a screw up just like the suggested shift points in the owners manual. The Sophies set-up looks like a very easy install. You probably won't have to remove the headlight shell.Whichever way you go jmonette, report back to us and let us know how things turn out for you.
