anger management 4 Years, 8 Months ago
I love this bike,I love this bike. I have to keep telling myself this to keep form going nuts!! The people at Yamaha sux and so do the dealears. Yamaha wanted to give me a four month extension on my waranty after the valve job. The bike goes up for the winter soon. It took a year for me to rack up 2500 miles. I read a complaint at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on an 07 model that had a valve job and the svs was back after 4000 miles. Looks like Yamaha is trying to wait me out. Yamaha said the bike will be fine. Hard to believe when I have been lied to so many times. (like the boy how cried wolf) Im tempted to ride for the iron butt patch just to put the miles on it. Thats not a laugh because I think its funny, but because I think Im going insane.

Don't know what to say Law. I fought a major war with my bike for quite a while and the only reason I didn't sell it and buy something else was plain and simple don't have it paid for yet. I don't have any brand loyalty and there are lots of good bikes out there. On the other hand all bikes have issues and going to something else doesn't mean you won't have new problems to deal with. I'm real happy with my Roadie now but a few months ago the name of the thread was "P.O.S.!!!! " I believe

Been there, done the anger thing. Believe me saying "ooom" in a yoga position only made it harder to get up off the floor. Fortunately the Clinic has more than enough help for us. All we need to do is focus on the small stuff 'cause it's all small in the long run. Stealers and Yamaha could give 2 hoots about you once the rear tire hits the highway. Their job of selling you merchandise is over. Plus, insanity is inherent in the human race. A little of it now and then helps balance one out. Stay focused and patient!

My dealer told me to change my pipes and I wouldn't hear the engine sounds any more..

I just realized that some fine Yamaha employee just liberated a small digital camera from my bike bag while it was in for service. Just simply lovely. I am getting it from all ends with this bike....

Two thousand miles on a new 07 Midnight silverado, the noise and squeaks from the headlight bucket are intolerable. Brought it to them, the fussed and farted. That night found the thread here about just the problem I was having. Made copies of everything and delivered it to the service mechanic and service manager, sugested they check this clinic forum as it seems owners are more on top of problems/repairs than they are. fixed it myself, thanks of ya'll.

Thread after thread Road Star owners whining about Yamaha and the Dealers. Geeeeeez.

My opinion #1: Yamaha makes a good product. I trust my life to it everytime I get on the damn thing. It's comfortable to ride. Corners great. Fantastic gas mileage. Looks great. Gets me where I'm going with no breakdowns or even oil leaks.

My opinion #2: The guys I've dealt with at the local dealerships are very in to motorcycling. I keep my bike serviced according to the specs by professionals. I don't take things apart myself because I think I know more than trained service people. I ride with confidence and I ride a hell of a lot of miles.

My opinion #3: I wouldn't even think about taking off cross country on a bike that my neighbor fixed. But I would pack my bags and go after getting the bike serviced at the dealership.

My humble suggestion to owners here: you have bought a great product made by a company that has been doing this for longer than you have been on this earth. Enjoy your ride and get it serviced according to their recommended schedule. Do not, repeat, do not start tearing into your bike if you have no clue what you are doing. There is too much at stake. We all know how quickly things can go wrong out on the road. Don't make it worse by messing with a product that comes off the show room floor ready to give you years of riding pleasure. Get your bike serviced regularly by professionals. Keep the oil changed. Tires inflated properly.

Meaning no offence kayakguy but you sure a hell sound like a dealer -stealer or what ever.

Not all dealers are the same, some actually ride! Others buy a franchise and sell...HUGE DIFERENCE.

No vehucle of any kind is perfect. I love my R* but kayakguy stop the B.S.

btw I trust me dealer - Performance Shed just north of Kingston Ont.

Interesting viewpoint. I'm glad that you have found a competent dealer you can trust.

On the other hand I challenge you to visit any Forum where one of the main topics of discussion does not center around the poor and incompetent service provided by dealers. Granted, folks generally participate in these Forums to obtain help so we do see a lot of negativity but I see the same problems over and over again being repeated from variuos dealers across the country.

Even the "great product made by a company that has been doing this for longer than you have been on this earth" has mad a bike that is flawed and prevents folks from enjoying their ride. Read through the SVS threads and see what folks have to do to get this company to respond to their legitimate concerns.

I agree that if you want the least amount of trouble with your bike .... keep it stock. For those of us, however, that want something that the factory does not, or will never produce, we have as much right to competent service, especially when we're laying down our hard earn bucks.

I wish you many seasons of enjoyable riding and treasure that dealer you have.

I guess the best way to avoid all the anger issues is to avoid the dealers and their "professional" service depts. all together.

I've never bought a bike from a dealer (always bought used; never been burned yet, knock on wood!) and I've only had one bike serviced at a dealer, twice. My '82 Kawasaki 750CSR (1st bike, didn't know jack about maintaining a m/c) about 6 months after I bought it and was riding from the St. Louis area to Jacksonville, NC, (about 1,000 miles) and wanted to make sure the bike was up for the trip.
Second time, same bike, when I had carb trouble and didn't know jack about carbs. (Still don't know much about them, but with the help of this clinic and the people here, enough to be dangerous!!)

My Vulcan has only been in the shop once (carb trouble) and so far the Road* has only been in the shop once (rejet) and both times was to a small, independent shop where the mechanic (and owner) will take the time to explain what was wrong and what he did to fix it. Besides, I'd rather give my money to him than support the local "Motorcycle Supermarket".

I know not everyone is mechanically inclided, but if you are, with the help of the service manual there's not too much you can't do yourself. And chances are, the "professional mechanic" is using the same manual. The only advantage is he's done it more often and has access to any "special" tools that may be required.

Well, that's my nickle's worth on the subject.

In The Wind,
Aaron

I am somewhat mechanically inclined, I know that some metric tools and SAE are inter changeable...

Seriously, I just know when I do something to my bike it is done right, my skin is depending on it. And most of that knowledge comes from the guys on here. I have had mine to the dealer 3 times, but that was before I had a place to work on it. I do trust the Mechanic at the dealer here in Dalton, he is a rider and a straight up guy. Only issue I have had was when they refused to mount a tire that I didn't buy from them. That was the Store managers call, not the mechanic.
