Jreed,
The tire issue has been going on here for close to 20 years, at least at the dealer. When I had my CSR back in the mid to late 80's and needed tires I asked about having them mount a tire if I bought it mail order and the said "No way".
The independent shops have even started declinig to do it, saying they can't guarantee the condition of the tire unless you get it from them. Sounds like bs, but what can you do??? Even the shop I mentioned earlier won't do it anymore, but that won't keep me from going back to him. Gotta play the game or buy the tools and equipment to change your own tires........
In The Wind,
Aaron

I guess I'm fortunate then. My local dealer/shop just mounted my online-purchased rear tire for me a couple weekends ago. I took it to them with the stretch wrap and packing still on it. No problems. Mount, balance, out the door in 25 minutes, 35 bucks.
I'm just under 17,000 miles on the bike (17 months old today), and I have not had to use their shop for anything serious. Hope I never have to. But what I hear about their service guys is all good. They have one guys who, according to word of mouth, has been wrenching bikes for 42 years and loves big V-twins. They say he is great on performnace upgrades and racing mods, too, if I ever decide to go that route and am too chicken to do it myself.

I can somewhat understand the dealers side of the tire issue. Its a cover your ass situation. As sue happy as this nation has become you have to look out for yourself. That being said if you have the invoice and the company you purchased the tire from it looks like that would get the dealer of the hook so to speak if the tire was defective.
They did mount my front but didn't like it, then refused to do the rear a few months later. But it gave me the chance to learn to take the rear wheel off align and do the belt tention. I didn't use to many curse words in the process....

Man, I think that one guy's lucky to have found a dealership he can trust. I am sorry that he has not had the joyfull experience of being jerked around by some jack... that don't give a rats butt if your bike is still under warranty or not. I don't know if you heard the audio of OJ jacking the place up out in Vagas, but man I wish that guy was for hire!!! (just kidding of coures I don't condone violence.)

Add another one who is happy with his dealer. Yamaha of Stillwater sold me the bike, and I've had it back three times for some not too serious servicing. I am very happy with my treatment, with the work they have done, and with the charges. (Sure it's expensive, but that doesn't mean the dealer is stealing from you)
I think perhaps we have developed into a forum that likes to complain, rather than to focus on the positive. Although I enjoy this forum, and have gotten a ton of invaluable information here, if I had spent six months reading here before purchase I probably would be riding a Honda.
I understand the people who want to work on the bike themselves, and pride themselves on actual improvements they have made, but wonder sometimes if they understand that any warranty on anything I have ever bought anywhere, includes a disclaimer about changes that have been made in deferrence to the original design will void any warranty.
My dealer will mount a tire purchased elsewhere, but they charge twice as much labor. As a former retail store owner, I see no problem with this.
Maybe the satisfied customer just doesn't have the need to post on various forums, but I am certain there are many excellent Yamaha dealers available, and just like Ford or Chevy or Honda etc. there are bad dealers and bad customers.
That's a $1.50 opinion that's probably worth .02 cents.

LOOK my father owned his own business for over 30 years! He always said no matter how much you hate a person,(customer) always leave them smiling. Customer service can make or break a business, and word of mouth is where most customers come from. If I screwed something up on the bike I could expect to be "on my own". This bike is stock and was still under warranty. Instead of using this "clinic" to nuse a sick bike we need to use it to unite against a corprate giant who could care less about the working man. I don't want a free ride I want respect as a consumer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, Law, if you understood my post as an attack on you and your problems. I really hate to hear about the trouble you are having with the bike and the dealer network, but wanted to point out there are good dealers out there.
When I purchased my bike, I dealt with several different dealers, and finally bought mine from a dealer 6 1/2 hours away. I can't tell you today which dealer offered the best price, as some of them never even got around to giving me a price. When I found this dealer, I had talked to several of his customers, including the local Star Riding Assoc. where he is a valued member, and knew that even if I bought a used bike, it would be from him. I have never gone into the dealership that the owner did not get involved in my problem/purchase/shopping experience. He knows my name, knows how many miles I'm putting on the bike, and knows I ride a lot just visiting grandkids.
Can't offer much more than encouragement to you and wish you good luck, but as you can see I'm not interested in a group that fights Yamaha or it's dealer network.
Understand, I'm not telling how to deal with them, just explaining how I choose to deal with them.

I’ve put over 40,000 miles on my ’02 Roadstar Silverado in three years I’ve owned it, had one bad crash that hospitalized me and the bike, had one flat tire, got the transmission recall done a month after I bought the bike (used, it had 1400 miles at the time) replaced a frayed clutch cable once, the tires three times, the spark plugs twice, the oil (Amsoil) six times and lots of gas pumped into the tank. I have never had a problem with this bike running. It starts every time I ask it to. It runs fine all the time. It looks great, in my opinion and yes the headlight buzzed a bit, I lost an acorn nut from the wind shield, the left front turn signal lens came loose but I caught it before it came all the way undone. The tail light bulb burned out and was replaced with LEDs. I’ve washed it, polished it, and rode it hard. My local Yamaha dealer is an idiot, not because of the work they do, I guess its fine, but because he fudges on the bill and lies to me. I now ride 40 miles to Britt’s Motorsports in Kinston to get anything done; of course all that comes to is new tires. I have no complaints about my Roadstar at all. It is the finest motorcycle I’ve owned, and I’ve had a few. I like the Clinic because of the insights about my bike that I get here; that and the outrageous humor and companionship I’ve enjoyed over the years. It seems to be a human quality to bitch about stuff we love. Hell when I snow skied all we ever talked about was the crazy crashes and spills we had or when I was sailing it was all about storms, gear failures, and idiots in power boats who didn’t know sh..t about being on the water with “real sailors”. My point is this, we love these bikes and because we do we take care of them ourselves as best we can, and sometimes give them over to others to care for and agonize when we do just like we would if our child was in the hospital in the care of somebody else. In all my motorcycle experience has been enhanced by being part of the Roadstar Clinic, and yah, sometimes some of Ya’ll buzz, rattle, hesitate, fart, have trouble getting started, and occasionally act contrary. All that just makes you interesting, besides, I’ve got the patch sewn on my vest so I’m entitled to voice my opinions.
