Vibration from instrument panel 4 Years, 8 Months ago
Is vibration from the instrument panel a common R* trait? My '01 makes a racket at certain speeds. Dealer suggested using electrical tape as barrier between panel and tank, but also said more subject to retaining moisture and rusting. It can be annoying, but I've accepted it as a character flaw. Any suggestions?

Instrument panel usually does not buzz. Are your sure it's the instrument panel and not the headlight?

It could be the wires underneath. One time when I had my dash off I put the wires back in a different spot and it took me a week to figure out what the buzzing was Are you sure it's not the keychain vibrating? I did that one too.

I originally thought it was the keychain. But, when it is vibrating, I can pull up on the front edge of the instrument panel and it stops.

Are the bolts tight?

Yes, they are tight. It rattles at 30 mph in 3rd, 40 in 4th, 50 in 5th oddly enough.

Pop the dash and try moving the wires around. Might help. And make sure the bolt at the end of the tank is tight. Maybe it's the whole tank that's doing it.

What Musky said and you might try backing all three bolts out and the
speedometer will reposition a little, then retighten. I've had mine
not line up right and you can still tighten the bolts and get a buzz.
Just a thought.
As doc also said the headlight bucket can also rattle on the roadie.

Is it normal for the whole tank to vibrate? Mine vibrates really hard when going down the road, not enough to see it move and I don't have any noise, but if I put my hand on the tank I can feel it vibrating really hard. If I push my feet down on the floor boards hard I can feel it to.
