Does it take a mile to warm up?? 1 Year, 8 Months ago
Hey all, went out for a ride today, 65 not 95 like it has been lately, my 04( that I love) ran rough till I had a couple of miles on her. I only let her warm up for about 60 sec. than took off. Are these bikes cold natured, should I let it get good and warm before taking off? Just asking, Thanks

They can be very cold blooded.

I usually do full choke for 30 seconds, 1/2 choke for another minute and then a tick on until I get to the stop sign down the road... about 1/2 mile either way.

Except on a really cold day (50F or colder) I am able to run without a choke. on really cold days, I turn up the idle a bit.

Give her 30 seconds or so to get oil everywhere it needs to be and ride easy for another minute or so. Then I push the choke all the way off (if I do not have to be stopping at an intersection). After 5 miles or so, she is just about fully warmed up (judging by idle quality and speed).

I start on partial choke, ride about 5 minutes, then push choke in, cold blooded if I don't.

Leave a little choke on for 'bout a half to one mile. Still takes 10 - 15 min to get up to temp.

FI does have its advantages, I suppose. But, I still prefer a carb.
