Walmart $25 Gel pad Seat mod update 2 Years, 11 Months ago
After trying out the $25 gel pad from Walmart that many hear recommended, I decided to permanently mount it on my seat.

it was amazingly simple, I removed the gel pad from it's zip on cover, and placed it directly on top of the stock foam under the seat cover. It fit perfectly without any cutting or modifications, then I simply replaced the stock seat cover and stapled it back in place.

The net result looks almost stock and is *much* better! In fact, it's actually even *more comfortable* than simply placing the pad on top of the seat. From an aesthetic point, it certainly looks better than having a pad sitting on top of the seat. The only visual difference is you can *slightly* see the waffle like pattern of the gel pad under the cover in sunny conditions.

The one drawback I've found is it does get rather warm after sitting in direct sunlight, so it might be wise to keep a towel or some other cover handy to lay over the seat when not riding. Fortunately, once you start riding, the gel cools down after only 5-10 mins.

I've taken several all-day rides since doing the mod, and it's **far better than stock!** I now can ride for at least an hour before I feel any discomfort. And any discomfort I do feel is *far* less than before. If I take a short break, I'm good to go for another hour, where as before, I'd begin to feel it after only 20 mins or so of riding, and even long breaks offered little relief.

Overall, 5 being Best and 1 being Least... I'd give this mod a:
- 4 out of 5 for comfort
- 4 out of 5 for ease of project
- 5 out of 5 for price

At the very least, it's made the seat *much* more livable until I can afford an expensive custom seat, and in the mean time, I now can ride all day without needing several days to recover anymore.

I purchased that before the Meet & Greet at Kai's suggestion. Only had it on top of the seat but it sure made a difference. I like the idea of putting it under the cover. Have to try that before trying to reshape the foam.

Don't recall the name but here's the original thread that was going around with photos:

...Oh, and correction... It was only $20.

Here's a photo from Kai's original post.

the end with the handle has a zipper and you can simply unzip it and pull the gel pad out. One side of the gel pad is flat and the other has a waffle like pattern, I placed the flat side up on my seat.

Through the thread I found what Kai put down "gel seat cushion 004685414287" from his ticket stub. I am going to pick it up quick and try it out! Thanks all for the info!
