Oil question. 1 Year, 7 Months ago
|
|
Ok, so I picked up my 02 1600 * last febuary. I've put about 10-12,000 miles on it and it has been perfect, except for that time I tried to go pumpless.
I've only changed my oil about a 10 times. Just kidding it's more like 20 times. I know I should change it more but that stuff is expensive.
So I bring my bike out in front of my house so I can pull the plugs out and drain the oil along the curb and into the storm drain. Plus I can use my neighbos grass to wipe the oil off my hands and it's a good spot to let my filter drain just in case I want to reuse it.
For some reason after I put my 4 Qts of 20/50 yamalube in and checked my dip stick. The oil just touched the bottom of my dip stick. That was with the stick screwed all the way in. Most of the time the oil is about 1/4 of the way up the stick. I know 4qts is all I should need but not seeing it on the xxxxxx part of the stick kinda bothers me. Any ideas.

you'er not changing it often enough, but the oil will make the grass easier to light. And after a while you'll not notice the after taste. Did you adjust the curb feelers when you pulled the plugs?

Just take the dipstick out, look in the hole and start 'er up. I guarantee that you'll see the oil come up.

Wont you watch over me while Im riding today
Send me down an angel to keep me steady on my way
Cause you know that Im not perfect
Im in need of some salvation
In the meantime let me ride in peace
Through this beautiful creation

I went through this a while back. Got scortched a little, these guys love a good oil thread! I found a video on Youtube about checking the Roadstar oil level. They had a little glass tube replacing the dipstick tube so you could see how worthless the dipstick is. (It didn't come off that way because it was a Yamaha Star video). They said something to the effect that you had to ride the bike normally for 10 minutes, park on a level surface, somehow get the seat off, aim the front end towards Osaka Japan, etc. etc. The bikes don't leak, or smoke (usually) so I just put 4 in it and rode.....
