I've been on the RSC over 5 years, and have heard of maybe two or three others having something similar happen. I don't think it's a pandemic....but what do I know.
All I know is it's a big two-cylinder motor with pistons the size of paint cans, with said pistons alternately fighting against and succumbing to gravity, assisted by controlled explosions. Things are gonna vibrate, things are gonna come loose.

WTF else is 'Typical Yammi problems' on these Yoshito bikes, exploding gas caps, nuts falling off belt sprockets,makes me wish I had bought a Harley, at least you know it's gonna come apart!
===================
Thers also a few other issues with the R* like for example,carb puking fuel onto hot motor also flooding it at same time,starter relays burning up or getting stuck in on postion,weak stock clutch spring leading to clutch slipping,weak rear shock & front fork springs bottoming out esp riding 2up with bike loaded for a trip,charging system on older R*'s being very weak at approx 21amps thats marginal to support much of any aftermarket accessories requring 12V VS approx 28 amps for the newer R*'s which still isnt great either,see a fair amounnt of stator/rectifier fails ,someplace on lower-rear portion of frame they have a tendency to crack,,sending unit in fuel tank for fuel gauge often goes bad,older models have oil pump shafts that break resulting in no oil pressure-cam & lifter issues-etc,7 so on.
And even with all that going on i still really like my 06 silverado ,we have to remember with a Harley you get to pay at minimum of 2x or more money right up front before ya start having issues with those bikes that we know is the case with them too.
When i was looking to buy a farily new low miles used lrg v-twin cruiser i looked at Harley vs R*,my 06 silverado that was like new with 4,700miles in 2009 which i got for $6,500 (Book was approx $8k). The bike needed nothing but a new rear tire in a few miles post getting it & that was about it. The bike also had a brand new Deka sealed mant free AGM battery when i got it too.
Harelys i was looking at of = age/miles/cond/with same type things like bags/passing lamps etc were approx $14K and or more and again ,Harley's arent exempt from mechanical issues and or poor design in some areas either.
I have also ridden some Harleys and like the feel of the R* better though i have to admit i really like some of the Harleys (fully loaded baggers with faring etc) i see out there at times and they are ones going for approx $25k new,way too much for my wallet to handle.
Scott
Here's my perspective, having replaced BOTH a gas-cap and a starter relay in the last 2 weeks. Mine is a 2002. I bought her with 19K miles and in the last 5 years I've added 47K miles. I knopw it's not as many as some of you hard-asses, but it's more than I put on any of my cages prior to buying ths bike. If THAT is all the extra stugff I have to do to keep her on the road...BRING IT ON! Also, there's something to be said for a bike that rides like this, costs like this, and eats up the miles.

Yep, that is a known "issue" with Yammi gas caps. The screws will loosen over time. Hate that happened to you.

Indeed! +1
Though this pilot is certainly known to err, pilot error was not involved. The bottom piece and screws are missing, and from the rattle my tank has recently developed, I have a sneaking suspicion the pieces in question are inside. Besides, as far as I know, you cant remove the key from the cap unless it's on correctly.
As for pandemic or not, I'd say in this instance, it's better to be safe than sorry. Given the ease of prevention to potential cost ratio, it's worth checking.
