Re:Who gets 50+ mpg... 4 Years, 8 Months ago
Ok I'm new to the group and I'm running behind on some of the forums but here's my stats. My bike is a 2000 bought it brand new. First few tanks averaged 44 mpg. I have now put on over 57,000 miles. I have added Samson big guns, Barons air kit, had the bike on the dyno and jetted. I averaged 37 after changing out the pipes and air cleaner. I have riden easy & hard. I have taken 5000 mile trips and believe me I know what I average. I have since added a fairing, tour pak, hard bags and I still get 37 miles to the gallon. Now if I pull my trailer I get about 35 miles to the gallon. I would love to have a roadstar that would get 45-50 but have never seen those numbers since day one. But I will say this I don't give a crap what my mileage is.
IT BEATS RIDING IN A CAR ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey hardone

Did you do the jetting or the dealer? Do you know what your settings are?

On the open highway I get 50mph. I have Yahama pipes and its been rejetted at dealer at time of purchase. Local riding which is combination of Highway and back roads it ranges from 42 to 46 mph. My son in laws bike is about the same. I do not exceed 70 mph on highway riding as a rule only perhaps to pass another vehicle. 65 to 70 keeps me in the 50 mpg average. Also I do not push the bike through gears at excessive speeds. I generally pull fifth aroung 50/55mph lower then 50 I leave it in 4th gear.

Hope this helps

Rich

I get about 44 mpg average. I have stock pipes. I get a little better in the mountains, I guess due to cooler air. I normally run about 70 mph on highway..

You need a new dyno shop. You can do better than 37 mpg.

We may be able to help but you need to find out the carb settings.
