HELP! Where have all the clutch springs gone?! 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago
This is getting ridiculous, I've ordered *two* different heavy duty clutch springs, both from different manufactures and separate suppliers and BOTH suppliers notified me [more than a week after I placed the order], that they are no longer available from the manufactures. Seriously... What gives?!

So now I need a *reliable* source for a clutch spring to replace my slipping stock spring with 40k miles on it.

I'd greatly appreciate some referrals. Also, if worse comes to worse, has anyone successfully tried stacking a new stock spring, with the original, to resolve the problem? ...Or perhaps an alternative clutch spring from another bike that will work with the Roadstar?

P.S. Can't afford a Barnette, so thanks but no thanks.

I think you'd do well to check ebay, I was looking a couple days ago and a variety of them.

Thanks for the suggestion, but they too say the Stage III is no longer available and I can't afford the others.

Tried ebay too, but all I found were the Barnettes and the more expensive Yamaha competition springs.

Get a used one from one the guys that put on the barnett. Then double it up. Cheapest and easiest I know of. Its what I am doing right now. It will *DEFINITELY* stop any clutch slipping you have right now.

I am also waiting on the EBC CSK906 spring. They said it was going to be available way back in August... they keep lying.

FYI- The Barnette, clutch spring ads on ebay say:
    Fits Yamaha models:
    ROAD STAR 1999-2011
    V-MAX 1985-2011
    ROYAL STAR VENTURE 1986-2011

So that begs the question, has anyone tried using the lesser expensive, stock style diaphragm clutch spring from a Royal Star or VMax?

FYI- According to the dealer, the Yamaha Part # for the Stock Spring is 4NK-16334-00-00 which is shared by both the Royal Star and Roadstar.

While searching, I did happen to see the EBC aftermarket replacement spring for around $20, on a number of sites, but all say it's currently not available.

I'm using a double up. But using the spring from a Virago1100. It's a little smaller, so that makes for a nice over lap. been using it for 80k, and friction plates have 137k on them. Need I say more? lol Think the Virago were in the late90's.
