Vapor locck ?????????? 4 Years, 8 Months ago
Has anyone got there Roadie really hot to where it didn't want to run ?
Happened to me last night . We escorted a bunch of charity walkers through downtown . Heat from the bike was unreal . I shut it off . Talked awhile , maybe 10 min. Started the bike , it ran for about 15sec. and died . Had a hell of a time getting it started . Once I did it sputtered and coughed and finally cleared up . I got it moving as soon as I could to cool it down . Was this vapor lock ? Never experienced this before . My other bike was liquid cooled . Could sit and idle forever .

If it was that hot you might have been boiling the gas in the carb. That's the trade off for not having a radiator. You need to keep moving.

Fella I know did a parade on his Road *, bad move. He overheated so bad he lost his clutch and she shut down and wouldn't start. Once it cooled down I believe all was fine, not sure on the clutch though.

Moral of the story, don't do parades on a Road *.

And have the proper type of gas line!!! Mine vapor locked on me coming back from Yellowstone this summer. It got up to 104*F running across Wyoming and the bike started cutting out and losing power. Limped it into the nearest town (luckily it was only about 15 miles) and figured out what the problem was.
When I did the pumpless mod in the spring I used a piece of 5/16" stainless steel tubing as a gas line from the petcock to the carb, running between the cylinders, with no insulation on it. Didn't think I needed it since the gas line wasn't touching the cylinders. Well, I was wrong. Went to the nearest auto parts store, bought a length of 5/16" fuel line, installed it and no more problems. Live and learn!!!

Aaron

If you have gone pumpless and didn't put the spring on the fuel line to help disapate the heat that should be on your list of to dos. Also I used to dide the mojave, check you gas cap vents, mine are on the shelf along with all the problems. and yes roadstar and parades are difficult. dearman
