It's finally here folks! Today I received the long awaited preproduction diaphragm clutch spring from EBC.
For those who haven't been following the other threads, EBC has had a clutch spring listed on many sites for some time now; unfortunately the manufacturer they contracted out to produce the springs used the wrong grade steel and they were too soft. Softer even than the stock Yamaha spring. So they've been waiting for months now on a new supplier to produce them.
Not long ago I was fortunate to speak with the EBC rep here in the US, who was kind enough to offer me a preproduction version to try out, in order to determine if the new spring is good enough for release. I don't know how much stiffer it is than the stock Yamaha spring, only that it's supposed to be better. So keep your fingers crossed, if this one works, then EBC will be one step closer to releasing them to the general public.
For the record, I don't work for EBC, I'm not a shop or independent testing facility, nor anything official like that, just a fellow Roadstar owner, who's been dealing with the same clutch spring issues as everyone else. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time when the rep made the offer. Any opinions I give here about the EBC spring is just that; so keep it in mind and I will try to be as objective and thorough as possible.
I plan to install it this weekend. Stay tuned to this space for further developments.
