Floorboard Extenders 4 Years, 8 Months ago
Roadies:

Where do you guys get your floorboard extenders? Do they work with Yamaha Big Bars? Any "gotchas" with the install?

Thanks.

Hey 06, I don't know where you buy them, but check out the tech tips here and there's a good write up on how to make them, It's pretty easy if you have a few basic tools..(I should say it looks pretty easy as I have not done it) but many have...

Got mine here - http://forums.delphiforums.com/1602/messages?msg=143163.1

Gotchas - 1.The floorboard bolts are held on by industrial strength loctite. Have a torch or heat gun ready. 2.There is a clamp between the side of the rear fender and the frame. The clamp holds some brake line slack. I took the clamp off and that gave me the extra brake line lenth I needed. I even still used the same line holders on the bottom of the frame. I did loosen the banjo bolt ( 1/4 turn / No leaks)down by the pedal and turned it back a little to cut down on the angle. It will make sense once you do it.

Warning - The bolt (Or nut. Can't remember which) that holds said clamp is a royal pain in the backside to get at and to make it more fun they put one of those wahers that has a fold up tab on it so you can't turn the bolt / nut until you bend the tab. They give you a generous 1 1/2 inches to work in though so it's no problem.

Check here:

http://roadstarclinic.com/content/view/74/107/

I built mine using this pattern and set them forward 3" and tilted at 15 degrees. It worked with my big yamma bar, and did have to loosen one clamp on the rear brake line, and change the angle of the banjo joint.

Love the way it sits me, and probably will at some point replace brake line with a longer one, when the budget allows. I've ridden over 5000 miles since this mod and it's working great.

Oh yeah, I'm not a mechanical genius nor a machinist.

Hey guys, Im in the process of having some laser cut,and powdercoated black. But Im only going 2.5" because I didnt care for the stretch on the brake line ,it laid mine against the motor and trans.Im also having the front hole slotted so you can adjust the board in the position you want, flat or 15 degrees up.the holes in the bracket where you bolt it to the frame will be counterbored so you can use the factory bolts.they have been on mine for about 2 months and found them sufficiant, and im 6 foot, and also made them work with my linby higway bar, with little mods.

Wow! That's cheaper than the Phantom Floorboard Extenders from SS Cycle Works. Karma comin' yer way, bro.

Gotchas - 1.The floorboard bolts are held on by industrial strength loctite. Have a torch or heat gun ready.

No problem. I had to remove the floorboards when I installed the Roadhouse Classics 2-1 pipes to move the floorboards away from the frame.

I removed the clamp, too (for the Roadhouse Classics 2-1).

I'll try to use the same line holders along the frame.

I'll check out the banjo bolt connection.

Warning - The bolt (Or nut. Can't remember which) that holds said clamp is a royal pain in the backside to get at and to make it more fun they put one of those washers that has a fold up tab on it so you can't turn the bolt / nut until you bend the tab. They give you a generous 1 1/2 inches to work in though so it's no problem.

Gotcha.

Thanks, Musky. Good stuff here.

The bolts holding the board to the bracket are easy. When you put the extensions on you need to take out the bolts holding the bracket to the frame.

The one holding the slack in the brake line is buried between the swingarm and the side of the fender. You have to stick your face down in there to see it. Follow the brake line back and you will find it.

Yep, I know. I had to remove the brackets from the frame in order to install the spacers.

Got it. Thanks.
