I live in CO on the North Side of Pikes Peak. Our house is at 9500 feet elevation. The riding out here is insanely good but we get snow but it melts/evaporates quickly.

Today it was 55 at 0900 this morning so I went on a 120 mile ride before chowing down for Turkey day dinner. I made it back to the dirt road to my house and there is an icy patch that has been compacted by car traffic since our last snow 3 weeks ago. It gets no sun and can't be plowed.

So, I decided to see how slippery it was. I stopped on top of it. Slowly let out the clutch and the rear end shot out like a bullet. The bike went over to my left with the rear end doing a roughly 60degree arc. I have never had a large cruiser go over. I sat there for a second and looked around to see if anything was hitting the ground other than the crash bar. Negative. So, I tried picking it up with me still on it. She was heavy but came right up. I guess all those years of deadlifts helps....plus I am a very big dude.

So, I got home, no scratches on anything other than the very bottom of the crash bar.

Here are my lessons learned

-Ice is very dangerous for an MC
-Linby crash bars are awesome
-I can easily pick the bike up (I was not sure about this one since owning cruisers).

Lesson learned.

Teach you to play on the ice with 800+ pounds. I learned a long time ago in England that Black Ice is nothing to mess with If I had $100 for every time I ended up on my back I would be rich. That's where my bike got it's name.

Kind of a cool experiment, glad you and the bike are ok, and I agree the Lindby is all right.

If you head west on 24, come out of town, go up bluebird hill, past the new hospital, turn left on Edlowe (28). I live near the end of Edlowe near the Catamount trail system, in Holiday Hills.

Today I did this ride, stopping in the Bull Moose in Guffey. It's WP to Guffey to Hartesel and back. Nice 3 hrs.

Since I put slowly over some ice patches due to my area, I never really knew how quickly they can throw your rear end out. It was immediate and I had not control over it. It will make me very cautious when I enter dark corners are areas that may have some icy spots.
