NOW I've done it 4 Years, 7 Months ago

Less than 600 miles on my boo- ti-ful Roadie and it already has a windshield bag, new seats, gps mount, Khrome Werks slip-ons ordered today, a Clymer manual ordered today, doin' a little tool shoppin' at Sears tomorrow. Oh, and a new helmet (color-coordinated, of course...). My wife's threatening to divorce me, my kids and grandkids say dad's/grandpa's scarin' them. WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME??

Sounds like you may need to refresh the lesson with your kids that personal evolution is a GOOD thing.
The wife thing, is a whole other matter. Maybe take a riders safety course, and get her enjoying a put put once in a while--as a togetherness thing .

We all suffer from the same ailment, just varying degrees....and money to spend on the mistress . I think I added my first piece of something i "needed" to my 2006 R* Silverado during the first week. At the end of the first month, i had added about 500.00 in extras...then other "stuff" to make it mine All tallied in the 14,000 miles and 15 months....probably about only 3,000 in "stuff". I've managed to stay away from the mechanical changes cause i'm just afraid to turn a wrench and my "sealers", while expensive are reliable and it would probably probably cost me more in the long run if i tried to do my own work.....and i have no garage so it would have to be a day project. Maybe I'll talk the wife into pipes next year.....or mabe a garage...was going to mess with the air cleaner and carb....but the roadie runs fine and I'm satisfied with @ 43 mpg and 70-80 mph all day long .
Remember the first step to recovery is admitting your problem...the guys hold meetings here every day so feel free to attend. The "Doc" is always around. You can always come here and get counseling.....it might be on which seat to by, or which pipes to add....or how to tweek your carb but the "office" is always open with these guys.
Now get out there and get some "retail theropy" with your R*

papatom,
There's another forum for guys with similar problem: RoadieRehab.com
..and RoadieFF,
I work (and ride) with two MSF instructors. When I told one I was going out shopping for my next bike, he said there were two groups of riders involved in most fatal motorcycle accidents:
- these young idiot kids buying the fastest, hottest crotch rockets with no experience and no respect for the machine and
- old farts like you who have been riding forever and think you know everything.
He then pointed out that this bike is bigger than anything I've ever ridden and that, at 48, my reflexes aren't what they used to be.
I signed up for the course and don't regret it in the least.

Fully understand the your infatuation. Bought mine June 12th. Two times repaired for SVS and still loving it. 6,000 miles to date. Started updating with the things I could make. 1 1/2 inch floor board extenders. Moved the brake pedal 1 1/2" forward too. Couple of small road trips. (Only 700 miles one way to TN!). And I seem to spend more time with the R* than the wife. She's not much for riding. But the little she does. She prefers the RS over any other bike I've had . Just make sure when your riding that you invote her along as much as possible. Let's her know your thinking of her at least. (And don't let the spending get into the household funds. Did that once with the old bike. YIPES!). Welcome to the club by the way. This is a great place for info and fun stuff too!
