How can you tell if the front pulley isn't stock? 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I'm trying to figure out if the previous owner replaced the front pulley on my R*, and I seem to recall someone here mentioning that if you replace your front pulley, you have to replace the belt, because the width is different. Is this true? And if so, does anyone know the width of the stock belt vs. the replacement belt?

I ask because, if there is a difference, then wouldn't it make sense that you could tell if the pulley has been replaced, by measuring the width of the belt?

You can count the teeth. 99-03 are 33 stock, 04-11 are 32 stock, 31 tooth pulleys aftermarket are very common and you do not have to replace your belt.

It's my understanding that the 1600 uses a 1 1/4" belt and the 1700 a 1 1/8". Like Steven said though it's not necessary to replace the belt if the correct size replacement pulley was purchased.

If someone replaced it with one of the aluminum pulleys then you'll probably end up replacing it anyway. From what I've read they don't last very long.

Most after markets pulleys only have one edge on them so ya can used it on 1600 or 1700 model without changing belt.on stock the belt sets inside the pulley edge on front and back

You don't have to remove the pulley. Just the pulley cover.

Really? Is it stamped on the side of the pully? ...Or do I have to manually count the teeth?

Im curious too. Of course never would be that easy. Prob have to count teeth. That or it will be stamped on back side of pulley.

You need to count teeth. Not that many so once you get the cover off it will go pretty quick.
