Here is the answer in a nutshell. While most of my harley buddies are fixing/wrenching just to ride I am still riding.

What can you tell me is the main differences between the road star and the other harleys I am looking at?

I have about 14k to spend. I have looked at an 2004 road king classic and an 2006 heritage softail deluxe.

I was in the almsot the same situation. I almost bought a Road King. I was looking at a 03 Road King. And it was a very nice bike with about 15000 miles for $17,000. This was before the 07's came out and the price of Harley started dropping somewhat.

Its just personal preference. If you want a dependable bike that has power and is fairing easy to maintain, looks good , rides and handles really well with tons of accessories available and isn't over priced then the Road* is the best choice, IMHO.

I purchased my 03 with 4000 miles for $8,0000. I now have 21,000 of trouble free miles. I have only had it for 14 months and I don't have any regrets not buying the Road King.

I ride with guys that have HD's and I have no problems keeping up in any situation riding 2 up or solo.

If you are the type that has to fit into the Harley ego, Yea I ride a Harley, then buy all means get one, but if you want a bike to ride for the ride you can't beat the Road*.

The 14K will buy you a brand new 2008 R* Silverado. It might buy you a 2005 Harley. The R* is a grand bike and I believe they made the right choice by going FI. I will ride one of the 08 models as soon as the shop gets one in to see if I am right. If it turns out to be what I believe it will -- my 06 R* will get traded in on a new 08 before the 09's hit the market.

Today I rode my best friends 2007 "Harley Softail Deluxe" and it's for sure a nice Bike, he Paid $21,500.00 for it. I am very proud for him, that he got it. So he says "Take her for a spin" and I really don't like to ride other peoples bikes, but he insisted! It is a very Beautiful and rode nice, but you people here need to know one thing, it's not a Roadstar!

Of course, I would not tell him, but there is no comparision to our Roadies!! I know people find it hard to believe that a Bike that sells for half price can ride better, but IMHO it does!!! GOD DO I LOVE MY ROAD*

As Pop said, it you can ... take them for a ride.

There are some here who have both so hopefully they'll be able to help you out regarding the comparison.

I had the same thoughts before I bought mine. Looked at an Ultra Classic and really fell in love with the look. The ride was pretty nice but the price was $19,995 before I added anything to it. Decided to look around a little more and started reading up on the R*'s. Found a Silverado at the local stealer and loved the ride in comparison to the HD and I actually like the look much better it was also $8,000 cheaper!!! Just did a 671 mile ride around Missouri and except for a bit of a sore seat I had a great time with zero problems.

Now if anyone can tell me how to get rid of these raccoon eyes I'd appreciate it!!!

Hey James

Ride them both and get whichever one makes you smile the most. Don't sweat the cost. You work to have the things you need and want. And If you die with money in the bank you didn't spend it fast enough. I don't see Harleys broke down anymore than any other bike. Roadies can be bad too. Ask anyone who has had SVS on their Roadies and they will tell you it's more than a minor inconvienence. Tons of accessories for Harleys and the Road stars so you won't go wrong either way there. I sat on a Harley and the Roadie and the Roadie does fit me better but if I could afford it (I'm spending too fast ) I would have an Ultra too. Their both nice bikes. My .3 cents anywho.
