Do not mix the two fluids under any circumstances!

Re:DOT 3 OR DOT4 5 Months, 1 Week ago
I just googled the difference. Nothing on any sites say cant mix 3 and 4. The major difference is 3 has lower boiling point. Hence 4 is better and probably 5.1 would be best if can find it. Dont mistake 5 tho which cannot be mixed. 5.1 is upgrade to 4.

Re:DOT 3 OR DOT4 5 Months, 1 Week ago
I would never go under a manufacturers spec, especially as something as important as braking just because I already have it. There are plenty of places to get brake fluid. let alone a zillion places on line.

I ran the 5 syn, and will never use syn. again. It never gave me the stopping power of reg. brake fluid. I ran the syn for about a yr (17k), but from the get-go I didn't care for it, I could never lock my rear brake, last yr when I finally got around to flushing that crap out and went with reg DOT4 , I could lock my rear even with half worn pads. DOT 4 for me and never a synthetic.

I agree with u erb about not going below recomdations. I havent heard anything good about 5 since its silicon based i believe. They said 5.1 is great but boy is it expensive.

I'm running 5.1 and think the feel is good. Truthfully though take off your stock brake hoses and go to stainless steel braided by Speigler....now you are talking feel!

The only difference between the two is the boiling point. They can be mixed.

The important thing is not to open the system when the humidity is high. Normal brake fluid (3,4,5.1) will absorb moisture like a sponge. It even absorbs it through the seals in the system over time thus the necessity of flushing every so often.

Even a container of fluid that has been opened and re-capped has a short shelf life.
