Finally joined that dang club!!! 5 Months ago
Ive been riding for 7 years accident free but tonight, I finally joined the accident club.

I was out riding tonight and made a huge left turn. There was some debree that hit my license plate holder (I have one of those license plate holders that hangs off on the left rear side of the bike). I really don't know what it was because it happened so fast. I took my eyes off of the road and kept looking back to see what happened to my license plate holder and within seconds, I started swerving and hit the curb--hard. At that point, my bike felt as if it was going down. I literally yelled out, "HELL NO" and with all of my strength, I pulled the bike up, while dragging my feet to regain control. After what felt like a a minute or two, I had control and was able to pull over.

I didn't go down and the bike isn't damaged but my license plate holder was dangling loose. Then I saw that the floor board extension for my Lindby, Linbar Highway bar was cracked. And, the tubing for my rear break (located under the bike) split and is leaking fluid. Oh, also the soles on my Converse sneakers are ripped up. Finally, I think due to the adrenaline rush, I was able to hold the bike up but now my left shoulder is really hurting. Funny, I just had the Kuryakyn sportech fairing installed and there was no way in heck that I was going to smash it up. I cant believe, while driving 40 MPH or so, I was able to regain control of the bike.

Anyway, I was able to repair the license plate holder, there was a loose bolt. I called Lindby and they're sending me a new floorboard extension--free of charge. I'm going to take the bike to a repair shop to repair the rear break tubing and to ensure that there's no additional damage.

The lesson learned is, don't forget the basic rule of riding. At all times, keep your eyes on the road. I got off lucky!

Main thing, you are not hurt, next, the bike is not damaged too bad.
We learn as we ride...hopefully it's not too painful.

Thanks guys. I'm still healing with Gentlement's Jack, Yuengling and getting some ribs ready for the smoker.
I'll tell you this, the Roadstar is a beast. A 1700cc beast.

yeah, she is a beast, after going down at 65 last summer and having to lock up to keep from smashing into a car just the other day, I know the feeling.

One person said I could have used basic maneuvers to avoid going down, but when its you thats in the saddle of this brute in an emergency situation it boils down to a rather large missile you are straddling.

It would be nice if we were on our game 100% of the time, but it's just not the case with any of us, humans are prone to make mistakes.

I'm just thankful the report isn't worse, take it easy with the pulled muscle or whatever and my best wishes for your safety 100 percent of the time.

Yep... U were lucky, things happen quick, even the very best and most careful riders let their mind wonder for just a second and it can happen.

Glad you are OK and thanks for the riding tip. I don't even like to look at anything on my bicycle when I'm taking my exercise. Even at 10-20 feet per second you can get in trouble fast. I've actually "gone down" on the bicycle 4-5 times, I joke that that is why I haven't taken a spill yet on the RoadStar. Was riding one winter and thought I could slowly plow through a small mound of snow. Turned out to be ice, hard, and soon I was headed over the handlebars. Fortunately I had a lot of padding on. Be safe and Merry Christmas.

glad to here ur ok for the most part anyways. i've been told that there is two kinds of bikers, ones that haven't wrecked, and ones that r going to wreck. thats pretty scary. like u said, keep ur eyes on the road, lets hope we all can scathe the inevitable.

You can keep your darn club to yourselves! I got pucker just reading it. (LOL). Glad you are safe as well as minimal bike problems. However, since you didn't really crash I'm presuming the only "accident" was in your pants. That doesn't count... or else I am a member when I was an infant.

Be safe! Nice "acrobatic" skills! (Smoking ribs?, Man, some people live!)
