Brake Line Install Problem 6 Years, 3 Months ago
I just installed a new braided front brake line to my Roadie. I have removed the right side caliper so the new line goes directly from the master cylinder to the left brake caliper. I filled the master cylinder with new fluid. I can't get any fluid into the lines nor will the lever get tight. with or withour the bleeder open. What could be wrong?
Thanks for any help.

I just replaced the brake line on my Indian Chief today, and at first I had the same problem. What I did to get around this was, I took my reservoir cover off and unhooked the brake line from the caliper for a while. After a few minutes, the brake fluid started flowing out the bottom of the brake line. I then hooked it back up and did a very cursory bleed, and everything worked fine.

My system uses DOT 5 fluid, if yours doesn't, be careful of getting the brake fluid on any painted surfaces, as it will take the paint off if left on for too long.

you can loosen the bolt at the top of the line, pump handle until the fluid starts to come out... then loosen the bolt at the bottom of the line, pump handle until the fluid starts to come out, then open the bleeder, pump handle until fluid comes out... essentially your master cylender has a VERY small bleed through hole (size of a small pin) but if you bleed every joint just like you would bleed the caliper it can be done rather quickly. ~Guido

If it still won't work, make sure you can blow air through the hose. I have had factory hydrolic fittings that were not drilled all the way through! New hoses, for some reason, are just hard to prime.
Good luck
