I'll let the aesthetic comments on WWW tires for those better suited to making comments on beauty and aesthetics. I have WWW metzlers on my Road*.

Technically passing lamps are an easy 1 beer project. The steps I mention below just make headaches further down the road less probable. I've done mine 3 times, as the weld broke on the first set, and the wires chafed through on the second. Here are a few pointers for “Star” passing lamp installation, not certain if Cobra or others have the same issues.

1. Run Steel wool through the bar, get out all the rust you can.

2. Treat the inside of the bar with a rust inhibiter, to keep it from screwing up the chrome, tape off the ends and the middle where any rust inhibitor could leak out and ruin the finish. (As for rust inhibitors I use POR-15 it creates a smooth surface and kills all rust inside the bar, plus it’s black, applies like a paint, which I prefer over the Naval Jelly.)

3. When you fish the wires through the bar use a long piece of safety wire not a coat hanger

4. Use heat shrink to provide additional protection to the wires as they exit the bars.

5. I ran a relay off the battery to power the passing lamps, its energized by the headlamp wire the instructions say to power the passing lamps, but all current is pulled direct off the positive lead.

(#5 is not a "have to" if you do everything else, but I like the safety of knowing my passing lights aren't on the same fuse as my headlamp. I discovered this could be a problem when I was 80 miles from home at 1 AM with no cell signal and no one on the back roads of KS. This is when my headlights start to blow every fuse I put in. At least until in a fit of frustration, I decided to take out the inline fuse to the passing lamps; back to the chaffed wires I mentioned.)

Thanks gang. Didn't realize that nopork has photos. I will look through them before I decide. Thanks for the detailed information on passing lamp, Derf. I will update once the projects are completed (if not sooner if I run into trouble). Thanks again.

Personally, I never liked the "WWW" Friends had them on their rides and the only one I thought it looked proper was a Heritage. (And grandpa's old 65 Harley!). But when I saw them on the RS. I now like them a lot. To quote my wife. It gives the ride a little more class. I tend to agree.

I'll chime in. I like mine a lot. This is the first bike I've owned with WWW, and I intend to keep the classy look. I don't mind the cleaning when the results are so doggone nice. Just my .02.

I prefer the hotrod look of a plain black tire, but that's just me.......BB

Besides, black is slimming, and I need all the help I can get!

I would never put black walls on the Rodie. I like the www look even dirty they look good. However a little brillo and water will clean them up just takes a little effort well worth it though.

I like my WWWs, too. Must be in touch with my feminine side.

Truly, I think my Silverado just looks right with them. We all have our own ideas about what looks good.

White walls look great on some bikes. I think they look great on mine But you have to be willing to put out the efffort to keep them clean. My next tires will be blackwalls

I have Metzler WW and love them - look good and handle great in dry or rain.

TIP: if you WW tires buy a jack and cleaning is no problem.

Use Mr. Clean Magic Erasers - too easy.
