OK I just got back in from the garage. I used aluminum foil and coke on it. Seemed to clean up the pitting and smooth it out. used a little chrome cleaner/wax on it and it seems pretty good. a few minor scratches but not bad.

But, seriously those scratches will drive you nuts you're gonna have to get some new pipes...
