MATAZU HL Black hard Saddlebags 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hey gents, I'm thinking of purchasing the Matazu HL hardbags but I want to get unbiased opinions.

The price for the hardbags are dirt cheap and that concerns me.

My biggest concern is, the bags are made of hard plastic instead of fiberglass. I question how durable plastic hardbargs are.

Does anyone have experience with these bags? What are the pro's and con's of them?

If I chose the tail lights, do I have to drill a hole into the hardbags?

What's the difference amongst the mounting brackets, bag stabilizers and rigid hard saddle bag supports?

Here's a link to the hardbags: http://www.mutazu.com/products.php?cat_id=7&menu=Hard%20Saddlebags&product_id=276&s=prod.php

Thanks for the assistance!

The problem I see with them is the same problem I have got with some bags I bought of a different variety
and that is there is no cut out like the rs bags for the belt guard. So you have to space the bags out further so they do not hit, which will give you more space between the bike and the bags.

kryingame, buy yourself a set of Yamaha OEM saddlebag support brackets. Put the bracket up to your saddle bags, drill holes in appropriate place. Use rubber washer against the walls of the bag, then metal flat washers that give you more surface area for support on the brackets. I believe the OEM brackets will give you enough space between the belt guard and the bags. Kai

P.S. you do get what you pay for but if you treat them right, they will work properly and a long time with enough support.

The stock Roadstar Midnight Silverado bags and now the Silverado S bags are plastic. I don't see the problem with plastic as long as they are heavy enough.

Like Kai said a good mount like the stock Roadstar mounts would help a ton.

And, like Chief said the belt guard is a consideration. The stock R* right side bag has a little more room than the left. The left bag has clearance for the belt. Remember, the Silverado bags are spaced out by the back rest side arms.

Now back to plastic vs fiberglass. The Royal Star Venture Bags are plastic also. Very sturdy and big! Aren't the stock HD bags plastic as well as the fairing?

I've got a set of Venture bags hanging on the garage wall. That is one of the projects for this winter.

I also say on one the forums, someone cut the belt guard out and spacing was solved. How do you guys think that will work, cause once it's done...it's done, eh?

LIKE Kia's post Makcap had those bags and although they worked, he moved on to some OEM and man was he happy! He has a set for sale if you still like to try them, maybe even with Ghost Brackets. PM him.

I'm sorry but can you guys be more clear. I'm not following what's meant by the belt guard being a consideration. Are you saying that the left bag will hit the belt guard? And, I don't know if it matters but I have the progressive springs on my bike, so it' lowered 3 inches.

Also, as I pointed out, I'm not certain why Matazu is offering so many different types of brackets. They say others have bought them but they're not clear why people have bought the stablizer bar, for example.

Thanks!

kryingame, the stablizer bar is used with their set up because they only have two points where the bag is actually secured to the bike. Their Stabilizing bar is the third, keeping 3 points on the bag secured to the bike and prevents cracking of the plastic from shaking when you only use their brackets. Clear as mud, right?
