can the front forks be polished?? 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Personally, I think the front forks are boring. I've seen chrome covers for them but I don't want that.

Is it possible to polish the forks to a shine? And if so, how would I do it?

thx
busher

ps. it is getting frig gin cold out!

Busher,
Yes, I did it on my Vulcan but it's a lot of work. First you have to strip off the coating/finish that is on them. I just used an 80 grit sandpaper. Then you have to spend many, many hours at a buffing wheel. What really sucks is that once they're polished, you have to keep them cleaned with something like Mother's to remove the oxidation, because from what I was told, you can't clear-coat over the polished aluminum. It won't stick. I even called paint shops and body shops and was told this. The finished product looks good, but it's a lot of work. I did the top triple tree too, but eventually painted it.

In The Wind,
Aaron

Don't take this as gospel but I think Cal custom cruiser has a chrome exchange for around 200 bucks.

busherjackson,

http://www.speedcitycycle.com/custombikes.html

Check out this site. I don't know what his price is but I know he has good tripple plated chrome. You might also recognize some of his bikes. Several of them have been in a few mags. He is located here in Indianapolis.

Mine are polished. I touch them up every spring .... takes about 10 minutes for each fork.

I can't do it with the Limby so I'm just gonna add a set of pegs on the bar.
