Tire Questions 4 Months, 1 Week ago
I am new to this giant motorcycle world having recently purchased an 06 Silverado w/ 14k miles on it.

My riding is mainly along the gulf coast from Louisiana to Florida and it is warm most of the year. My riding style is rather conservative because my wife is on the back most of the time. I have a crotch rocket for play time riding solo.

TIRES!
There are so many out there and you never know what you get until it is mounted and ridden so I am seeking any info on the tires that you folks consider the best riding and handling on your bikes.

If you would be so kind as to lend me some of your tire wisdom I sure would appreciate it!

I had a dunlop on the rear till recently that "hopped" at highway speeds; I replaced it with a Pirelli MT66. It was a good price buy and I did little research on it...seems ok for now.

Thanks!

Me personally have stuck with the OEM Bridgestone Exedra's I've gotten good mileage out of the here in California, and have never had to add any weights or Beads as they balanced perfect on my both my rims. I guess it's just a matter of choice.

I'm running Bridgestone Exedra tires as well. I really like the ride.

Off topic: I live in Southeastern Louisiana. When you ride in Louisiana where are your favorite places to ride?

My '06 came with Bridgestone Excedra's...
not completely satisfied with the ride.
My next set will be Dunlop 404's. They
seem a bit softer.

I've had good luck with metzler 880's, got almost 10k on the front tire and it still looks good. The ride is very good also.

Your MT66 should last about 6K riding 2 up. The one they sell in our size rear is not quite made for the weight.

Many here are huge fans of the Metzeler ME 880. I have never ran them.

I am currently on Michelin Commanders, which are out of production, but I love the tire, regardless.

Look for load range B tires if possible. I'll even run a 140 width to get the right load capacity under the bike. Wide tires do not impress me. I can't see it when I'm riding, and they do nothing for performance or longevity. As a matter of fact, they usually weigh more.

I think the B'stone excedras are great tires and if I still ran a bike tire it would be a B'stone exceeds. I got double the mileage I got from metzler's and I put the b'stone to the max in high speed cornering and never once gave the slightest indication of breaking loose. The front b'stone always gives me atleast 20k miles and I got 13k out of my last rear. JMO

I agree on the Excedras. I've still got the original front off mine, took it off at 16k+ miles. Cupped because I was running 36 psi but still another 3k there. I've never found another that will last like that and that's the reasom I'm running one now. Will put one back on the rear as soon as the Pirelli is worn out.

I tried the 404's and they didn't last well at all. The front only has something like 5/32" tread depth.
