passing lamp short. 4 Years, 7 Months ago
Hi, I am new to this forum. I would be grateful for some help. I own an 06 Roadstar XV1700, Silverado. I have the Yamaha passing lights and replaced the yellwish bulbs with white ones. They worked great with no problems. Recently I installed Yamaha tri-bars in the housings and placed the same white bulbs into them. When riding they short out my headlighs and taillights.It doesn't happen right away. Probably half an hour into the ride. Once I replace the 15amp fuse and shut off the passing lights at the toggle switch, my headlight works great and I have no problem. Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem and have a solution for me. Thank you, Pat pplfxr@aol.com

Welcome to the Clinic Pat

I would start by looking for any shorts / bare wires in the headlight bucket. Then look in the passing lamp buckets and the wiring going from the lamps to the headlight bucket. Electrical problems suck

I have had the same problem a couple times with my passing lamps....I found a broken wire in the passing lamp housing with the on/off switch.

Thank-you I will pull them apart tomorrow, kinda have too. Just rode from Tucson to Phoenix and back today and caught a rock on the left passing lamp tri-bar. It's gone. But need to check the wiring anyway. Thanks again, Pat

Thanks Beefcake;
I did have to drill a new hole and move that switch because the tri-bars take up more room in the housing. I will take a closer look at it. I'm going to put the stock lights back in tomorrow until I can get another tri-bar that got buried on the freeway between Phoenix and Tucson today. Thanks again! Pat
