Another fairing question. 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
First off, this forum is great, been a long time reader, but never had the need to post. And thanks guys for figuring out my registration problems
But I just recieved my reckless fairing and am wondering if anyone has some close up pics of the mounting hardware setup and also if anyone has used 5.25 in speakers instead of the 5in speakers. There's just no market for 5s and I'd really like to use 5.25 instead. Thanks for all the info!

I just installed my Reckless fairing two weekends ago. It's super easy if you have the original factory windshield mounts to bolt to. Agpilot has some great pics of his mounting along with some suggestions about strengthening the factory bracket.

I too ordered the 5" speaker holes. The diameter of the hole was only 4.5". I used a set of 5.5" which required opening the hole an additional 3/16". I just used a dremmel tool with the drywall cutter to freehand enough of the opening to accommodate the larger speakers. It was easy to do, but I'd recommend wearing a mask and use a shop vacuum while cutting to keep the dust down to a minimum.

Good luck with it. I've found the fairing to be a great addition!

Steve

PS. Got to get an updated pic taken!

Just another thought...I used this hidden antenna that fit perfectly inside above the radio mounting area. There are a number of choices out there, but I couldn't find one even close to this price. Just $12.99 delivered and it works great! Here's the link.

You know I bought a Reckless fairing with 5" holes and bought some Boss 5.25 inch speakers but they fit in perfect. Thought I was going to have to cut the hole bigger too. Guess they must of done it at factory so I got lucky.

They do sell them from reckless but I think they are $45.00. Mine didn't come cut, so I decided not to use the splash guard. I purchase the splash guard from crutchfield.com and just have it laying around. If your interested let me know I will let it go for a great price.

Alright sounds good. Maybe i'll be lucky too and the speakers will fit. I also read where some guys mounted the speakers from the back side of the fairing. I ordered a yamaha factory windshield bracket set off ebay, and am hopeing I got the right ones... So far everything I read about reckless was right, out of the box the fairing looked great. So far, I'm glad I ordered it over the more expensive ones. I guess this weekend i'll start pieceing the audio equipment together. And thanks for the hidden antenna idea, was wondeing how I was going to put one on.

i installed the 5 1/4 inch Polk marine speakers and had to dremel the holes out a bit. as mentioned above, a lot of dust. wear a mask and keep checking but don't worry about making a perfect circle. the speaker covers cover more than enough for minor flaws.

i also bought a marine stereo enclosure from ebay for like $24 and it works great. i just had to cut out for the double din size because i forgot to mention that i wanted the larger hole when i ordered from reckless.

I'd also recommend putting some weather stripping in the cage that holds the radio in. it'll cut down on vibration and rattling.
