How to clean off burnt rubber on my chrome exhaust 4 Years, 7 Months ago
So I let my brother in law ride my bike, and my nephew wanted to ride so bad, so he took him, no big deal right? Well I didn't think of anything when he was crying cause he put his knee on the hot exhaust, but the next day, I see black skid marks where he used the hot exhaust to climb onto the rear seat. I tried scratching it off with my fingernail, when cooled down, and tried washing it off, and no luck. This is a sore thumb when it comes to the looks of my bike, and is very embarassing to me when I see it. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this off without spending tons of money -one- and -two- not scratching the chrome and doing it myself.

Wife did it to me on her first ride. Her heel came down further than the peg and voila' there was a black mark on my pipes. I used goof off on a soft microfiber cloth after the pipe was cooled and followed it with a good chrome polish. Cleaned right up for me

Really tough areas can be treated with "easy off" oven cleaner. Just stick a piece of cardboard or something like that in between the pipes and the bike, as you don't want that stuff getting on anything else. After clean up, hit it with a good chrome polish. BB

I had the same problem this past summer.

I don't remember where I read it (although I think it was on this forum), but try scraping it off with a plain old nickel. Apparently the nickel alloy is softer than chrome and won't mar the chrome, but gets the melted rubber off.

I was skeptical, but for $.05 it seemed worth a try. Worked like magic, for me!

That's just my $.05 worth.

Heat the pipes and use blue job and some elbow grease
It will do the job without a doubt.
