just get a lawyer and be done with it. Most lawyers that do traffic charge something like 75-100 dollars to handle traffic tickets. It's not like Law and Order no matter what anyone says. This also depends on your state. In my state each moving traffic violation counts as points against your license. Any time you plead quilty it is points against your license and and the more points you get it may lead to loss of license plus and this is also a big plus, insurance companies will raise your rate with a moving violation. Thats's why it's important to get this dropped to a none moving violation. YOU CAN NOT do this yourself and walk into the DA office and talk them into getting your ticket downgraded to a none moving violation. It's a game to them and you can't talk the talk. GET THE lawyer and pay the fee to get it dropped to a none moving violation. Usually the going rate for this is attorney fees plus they generally double your traffic fine to do this. IT's money in the pocket of the city and most larger cities are happy to play this game because money talks

i know cody and he is a really good kid very thoughtful and respectful to poeple,for those of you who were a$$es about him look in the mirror wishing bad things that will come back on you.
as for what he did normally he is a safer rider then i and i live close to grand ave and it is not uncommon for drivers to do 75 and over it is u.s.60 and is a long straite road and goes from 7 ave to were the name changes to the 93 goes all the way to interstate 40 some 100plus miles

I'm a cop from Florida so I can not speak for AZ law. But in FL anything 30mph over requires a traffic hearing, meaning you, the cop, and the judge. No jury, no attorney, no other witnesses. You can elect to have an attorney but most don't. Generally if you were cool on the traffic stop and not a smart mouth, the cop will be cool at the hearing, if your license looks good and this is not a habit, generally you will be ok. I would guarantee the judge will pull your entire driving record so don't think of lying. Also forget the "blowing carbon out" bs. Thats a piss poor excuse, you can twist the throttle in neutral and blow the carbon along with your motor all you want sitting in your driveway.
That being said, go in there, be humble and respectful, and honest. Tell the judge you made a stupid mistake and apologize. If your driving record looks decent, I would suspect that you will walk out with a fine, in Fl it would be 300-500. And you may get some community service hours. Lawyer is your choice, in Fl I would say your wasting your money, but like I said I don't know AZ law. My suggestion is do like some others suggested and call a lawyer maybe and find out what your looking at. At the very least ask a traffic cop in your area what your looking at, punishment wise.

I tried staying out of this. I think you've gotten some good advice, especially from gents such as: signal20k9 and greenpus and others.
I am an attorney. While I'm not giving you legal advice, I will say this: 1 - Hire an attorney. It will save you a great deal of headaches and cash. Your attorney will be your mouth piece. Without a representative, you're like a sitting duck. 2 - When you get to court, be humble. If you're asked to speak (and I doubt that you will, don't lie and don't come across as arrogant. Also,dress nice but don't come to court, dressed like you have money. 3 - Learn from this mistake. I guarantee that every single member of this club has floored it. Some have been caught and some haven't. It's a life lesson.

In the early 90s I let the cops chase me around on my bike. After I crashed at about 90 mph they gave me 73 points on my license. I had to go to court in five different towns. Aaaaaaaahhh the good ol days. About a month after that I got a DWI. Some times you have to be young and dumb before you can be old and wise. I haven't had a ticket sense.

Wow, I never expected so many posts wishing bad things on the OP. If this is how many of you feel - sell your 1600/1700 bikes and get a scooter or a Honda rebel. If you say you have never had your Roadie over 80 than either your lying or you don't know what your missing. 80 is not that fast. Yes he was way over the limit, but who hasn't been on an open stretch of road and found out what their bike would do. I think most of us have and the OP was unfortunate enough to get caught. Personally, I would skip the HUGE attorney expense and go in there dressed nicely, have a good attitude, speak to the judge like you have a decent education, look him in the eye and admit you made a mistake and let him know how sorry you are. This is assumng your past driving record is clean. From my experience most judges have mercy on first timers and like already mentioned if you had a good attitude with the police officer and treat the judge with respect you should be fine. Oh and don't forget to tell him that next time you will check better to make sure there aren't any cops around.

I did a little research for you. I know you said you learned your lesson, so I am not gonna go into the whole thing we tell most bikers since I am an EMT/FF. Hopefully this will help you out with having a little info, knowledge:

"Excessive speed or criminal speed in Arizona is a class 3 misdemeanor carrying a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail and up to a $500 fine. Speeding can become a crime under a couple of circumstances:

Exceeding 85mph anywhere in this state can get you a criminal speeding ticket,
Exceeding 35mph approaching a school crossing, and
Exceeding the posted speed limit by 20mph in a business or residential district or if no speed is posted exceeding 45mph.

If you are found guilty, the MVD will also be glad to add 3 points against your license and perhaps send you to defensive driving school. A criminal speeding ticket could also lead to a suspended license and other penalties imposed by MVD.

Excessive speed should not be taken lightly. It is a crime."

lucky...we were that way in my day. After I broke in my new engine in a 69 roadrunner, I got clocked at 132 in a 55 Cop said.." wtf were you thinking"?.... cost me $500 to get my car back and $250 in tickets...that was 1978 dollars. Never again! Nothing since. Cody get u a lawyer....write it off as young, dumb and full of .....crazy. Man, learn from it. Always think of the worst case cenerio.... i.e. dog runs out in front of you...even though you say the road was right for it...it never really is. Count your blessings ...and EASE on down the road.
