Re:criminal speeding 2 Years, 10 Months ago
I got an "excessive speeding" ticket once. Radar clocked at 110 in a 65 MPH driving a beat up 1976 Honda Accord. Can you say small town speed trap. Anyway I went to court to defend myself and the Judge said "BOY do you know this is s misdemeanor and you can go to jail. Get a lawyer."
So I got a local lawyer that the Judge recommended, I think it was his brother-in-law. Got off with a big fine and a big lawyer fee.
Don't make things worse for yourself, get a lawyer that spends a lot of time in that court

I bet you any amount of cash that the judge and the attorey are related. And, of course, if the judge told you to go to a specific lawyer, that's highly illegal.

Cody, it's difficult to answer that question but as an attorney, I give you this advice. It's not a difficult case. You don't need someone with 20 years of experience. Any 1st year associate could handle this matter. So you have two choices: 1 - Go with a solo practicioner. This person will charge you a flat fee. 2 - If you choose to go with a law firm, request a jr. associate. But, firms will charge you more in the long run.

I live in Charlotte, NC. A colleague charges anywhere btwn $250 - $500 for a court appearance. But the fee's are different, based upon the city that you live. I'm sorry but this is going to be an expensive experience for you. You're going to have to pay attorney fee's; court cost and a fine; you may have to attend a class and your insurance is going to go up.

Check to see if your State has a defensive driving class that you can take to help lower your insurance.

I agree get a lawyer as they will be able to get the best deal. I know here in Florida we have the Ticket Clinic that specializes in this sort of case, but do not know if the same exists in AZ. My daughter had a ticket dismissed with thier help and her fee was $90. Very cheap when you consider the cost of points and insurance. You appear to be going about this in a mature fashion getting advice and then doing the right thing. I know there are many occasions when I should have been busted and a few when I was. This is important at this stage of your life to resolve as well as possible so that it does not have long term negative impact. Even a $1,000 now will pay benefits in the long run. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Cody,
There are 2 types of men: those who do and those who lie about it. Most of us have done stooopppiiddd stuff, as I tell my kids when you have teen agers we'll swap war stories. A quick google search brought up legal beagle help in traffic. Start here stay within your budget (expand your budget if you have too), learn your lesson and move on. http://www.tickethelp.com/az-arizona/speeding-traffic-ticket/lawyers.html

ENOUGH! I never said I had not done some stupid $%^T.
Spent three painful years in therapy for my speeding mistake in a
slow speed zone. I would not wish that pain on anyone.

But, I question how many of you here would be offering helpful
comments if the lad had been in a cage?

Perhaps a few $$$$$ will teach this young man a lesson.
I hope so.
