There is an exception to that.....on curves it should be outside inside outside and if you are behind then you should allow enough room for proper cornering PERIOD. That is why I had my wreck I was holding my OUTSIDE line and the ride behind me was to close to corner the proper way.Proper following distance is of major importance as well. If the bike in front of you dumps you don't want to make it worse by running over them.

Ride in the group the way you would want them to ride with you. Respect the skill level of the riders around you and forgive those who tresspass againt you or do stupid things but watch out for yourself because you are the one that has to get back to where you started from. It has been said that even duck tape cant fix stupid.

It was said a couple times already but DONT ride above YOUR skill level. I ride within a group for most of my miles. The group is usually 15-20 bikes and we all know each other. I wont ride side by side with most of them and a few shouldnt be riding at all therefore staggered with a 2 second interval is how we ride. Its only been a couple months since one of the group went down due to riding above HIS skill level. As far as Etiquette goes if your going to be dumb you better be tough.
