speedstar air filter 1 Year ago
I bought a Speedstar filter assy from Major M here on the forum and thought (I didn't ask, my fault ) I was getting the entire assy. Unfortunately all I got was the filter and cover. Does anyone have the backing plate and what else is needed to install it? Major M you should be a little more up front with what you sell.

The speedster air filter goes on top of the stock airbox. in place of the stock cover.

If you bought it from Yamaha this is what you would get Speedster filter

oops maybe I was too harsh on Major M. Where does the vacuum tube go and is the center bolt the only one holding it on?

Yes, just the center bolt holds it on but you need a longer one I think. The crankcase vent tube still goes in the same place, back of the stock housing.

There is a vacuum tube in side the air box that hooks up to the air filter, that is the one that has no hookup on this filter. I did change the stock filter for a K&N. I don't remember if there was a mod to the air box concerning the vacuum tube . In Yamaha's speedstar ad it states that all mounting hardware is included. That's why I believe there is other parts that should be with the assy.

I'm pretty sure there aren't any vacuum tubes going to the air filter only the crankcase breather. Trace the tubing it should go to the top of the rear cylinder. I rerouted mine to a breather under the bike cause I didn't want oil in the carb. Then, I just plugged the hole on the housing.

This tube hooks up to the carb and comes out of the airbox.

Yes I believe you are right. Some times my brain farts are really huge. That's what happens when you get past 67 years old. I need to apologize to Major M.and I do.One should engage brain sometimes.
