gas leak 1 Year ago
I have a 2008 roadstar with fuel injection. noticed today when i started it up, after sitting for 3 days, gas dripping from the upper center area between the cyliders. do the 2008 have and fuel line overflow hose? let it set for a couple of hours and started it up again with no leak and no problems. looking for some clues. thanks

Did you fill up *right* before you parked?

If so, its probably due to expansion. Most gas is COOL in the underground tanks. When warm it expands.

I had a carb'd sportster that was really bad at that. If I filled it at the station down the road... and brought it home and parked it... sure enough gas would come leaking out slowly...

So, I learned to fill it up about 10 miles from home and park it.

The 2008+ have a sealed system. Other than the rollover valve, I can't imagine where this fuel could have come from.

Fuel lines and regulator run down the LH side. Don't know why you'd see it anywhere near the cylinders, other than where the injectors insert.

You sure it wasn't just condensation? Was the bike parked outside?

Keep an eye on that. Never heard of anything so weird...

Hi again folks. Thanks for all your guys help. yes my bike is parked outside, unfortunatly. Started it up this morning and it started to leak again. Coming from the upper center area. Let it cool down and took the tank off to chack things out. Couln't find anything. Being that this happened only in the morning and on the first start up, i'm leaning towards condensation coming from the injector area, maybe?

If it's condensation it won't smell like gasoline. If it's gasoline then it needs to be looked at closely. The pressure in the injector lines is close to 50 psi, not something you want to start spraying while you're riding.

Possibly a bad o-ring at an injector? Haven't really looked at mine in that area but I did have that problem on my Mustang. I was lucky I didn't burn the car up the way it was spraying gas. You definitly need to check that out.

where is the fuel pump @ on the fi? inside the tank i assume? could it be it leaking from the seal where the fuel pump sits (assuming again its bolted in from underneath and not up top under the dash)
