I just spoke to a lady at Reckless regarding their fairing and speakers.

1 - She told me that the fairing wobble is common with certain fairings and that Reckless fairings are not known to wobble. I don't know how true this is.

2 - She told me that the 6.5 inch speakers are known for strong treble and bass and are the most popular choice. And, that hearing tunes at highway speeds should not be a problem.

3 - I was confused about the price of the fairing. For the base fairing, the cost is $350.00. The speakers are an upgrade. The total cost (including brackets and shipping) is $840.00. Guys who have the 6.5 inch speakers, please confirm that this is the price that you paid.

I really wasn't expecting to hear $840.00. I loved the $350 price but it really didn't make sense to have speakers, the fairing and brackets for only $350.00.

4 - The woman informed me that the current shipping time is 10 - 15 days from the time the order is placed.

5 - Finally, I informed the woman that I have a raked triple tree on the bike. She said that the brackets will fit without any modification. And that its simple to install the fairing.

Now, I really have to decide what I want to do. I wish that I would have originally went with a reckless. The Sportech Plus fairing wasn't a good decision for what I want in a fairing.
I paid 400 bucks for the Reckless shipped to my door, sans stereo. Went to Frys and paid 220 bucks for a JVC MP3 ready 200 watt deck and 4 5.25" Kicker coaxials and installed my own system. The stereo system kicks ass and steering-front end is rock solid at high speeds and crosswinds. The Reckless is the best bang for the buck, IMHO!

I get a slight wobble at speeds above 70mph. It isn't too bad but while passing big trucks in the wind it can get a little worse. I have the Polk 6x9's and they do sound great. Like any other sound system in the wind they do need to be adjusted for more treble to hear them well, maybe a good amp would help

Re:Thinking of dumping my fairing for a Reckless 12 Months ago
Here's an update to my fairing audio issue. The reason why I was not fully hearing my sound is, the left speaker was nearly blown. It was like that from the date of install. I called Sportech and told them my complaint. The tech didn't ask a lot of questions, nor was I given the run around. I was told to disconnect the unit, put it in a box and they would arrange for UPS to pick it up and they'll send me a completely new unit. With the Sportech fairing, you can't just disconnect 1 speaker. Both speakers are connected to the amp, which is connected to the power cord. So, you have to pull the tank off and pull out the wires.

I'm no mechanic but I was able to get it all out within 2 beers. I'm happy because I was always questioning how to remove the tank. It's not a difficult job, just a bit tedious.

Anyway, the sound system is in route to Sportech. Unfortuately, it'll take 3 - 4 days to get to their office (located in MN). There's a 1 day turn around and then 4 more days to ship it back.

Right now the bike is in pieces in my garage. I really was hoping to ride it over Memorial day but heck, I'll just smoke a boston butt, drink lots of beer and whiskey and hang with my girl instead.

According to Sportech, it's a powerful system. I was able to manipulate the volume through I-Tunes. And it was loud, although I was only getting true sound from 1 speaker. We'll see how good the system is when I get the new speakers.

Thanks everyone for your advice!

I was told that since all components are wired together, everything will be switched out and I'll have a brand spanking new unit Also, I put a tiny dot on the amp. If I get an amp back with a tiny dot, I'll know that they didn't fulfill the promise. Yes, I know it's anal and childish but that's my reassurance. lol

Re:Thinking of dumping my fairing for a Reckless 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Okay gang, the replacement new speakers and amp arrived from Sportech. It is a new set. I got it wired back up and get the bike all set up. I did have a problem with the set up but found out that the negative wire wasn't crimped tight enough. I now wonder if that was the original problem, oh well.

The sound is much louder but I wasn't able to get the bike our on the road (to much whiskey). Now when I firt took the outer fairing off, I noticed that two screws were loose. I wonder if this contributes to the wobbling taht I felt. Only time will tell.

But mates, if the sound is not where I want, I'm just going to cut my loss and go with the Reckles fairing with the 4 4x5 speakers and stereo.
