I can't say about the R*sensors but if you try to extend the wire on most automotive sensors you will destroy the integrity of the sensor.

I dont plan on doing any splicing, just locate to wherever the wires will reach.

When I bought my '08 I was riding it home and noticed a problem. Turned out to be missing O2 sensors. I had one from the PO but needed to purchase one. The back cylinder's O2 sensor connects behind the right side panel. It required that I splice some wire to make it reach.

To this day, the back cylinder plugs are richer than the front and occasionally, at constant throttle, I get some stuttering at low speeds...

Wonder if it's because of the splice?????????

I do believe that even if you solder the connections, if you don't use the exact same wire, you're going to effect the O2's voltage signal to the ECM.

When I bought the extra sensor I ran across a site that actually had an extention for this application. But for the life of me, when I went to purchase the sensor, I couldn't find it again.

Since I'm experiencing this rich condition in the rear cylinder, I may take it apart, desolder and go find the exact gauge, material and strand count wire to replace the splice with cause I'm sure I just used some wire I had sitting around.

Anyone else think this could be the issue?

Yamaha sells an OEM O2 sensor extender for the FI Roadstars.. When I installed my Yamaha Speedstar long drags an extender was needed and came in the factory box in a Yamaha part bag. You should be able to order one from your local dealer...

I've already been down this exact road.

Here's is some very helpful info.

Also I extended my O2 Sensor wiring and did not experience any issues whatsoever. Been running perfectly for a few thousand miles with no ill effects.

We use O2 sensors at work and extend the wires all the time, with no issues. It is a thermocouple that needs special consideration when you hook it up.

Thanks Dysan, I saw that thread, maybe I have a bad solder in mine.

Fireman, do you extend the wires with the exact same gauge wire? And what special consideration? Are these things easily damaged? I didn't do anything to the sensor that I'm aware of but, hey, you never know.

No. The sensor leads get the plug lobbed off and tied to a term box (12 ga wire), to a PLC cabinet (14 ga wire), bunch of terminal strips, fuses, etc. As long as you are making a good connection and have limited current, wire is wire (within reason).
