Like Curt, I wouldn't go with either. I have universal K&Ns on both of my R*s for about $45 each.

One is the RA-066V round and the other is the RC 1980 oval. Go see ajusa.com.

Curt, thanks for that info. I bought my other ones from them, and just ordered up 2 more. The price was irresistible.

ALSO, my last one had the K&N logo upside down, so I phoned my order in and asked that they please open the box, put their finger in the opening in the back, and be sure, with the hole at the top, that the logo was right side up. The order taker made a note, and assured me he'd have warehouse do just that.

You may want to do the same!

You can go to AutoZone or some other auto store and find some one those chrome stick on decorations that you can stick over the logo.

My R* had the HC installed when I bought it. I did have issues with my right leg hitting it all the time after I replaced the forward controls with the stock floorboards. While rummaging around in the extra parts that came along I found a set for brackets that moved the boards forward about 2" and kicked them up around 15 degrees. Now I don't even notice the HC.
As to performance benefits? I must be moving more air. I have it on a jetted carb and a set of V&H Long-shots and a stock 1600 I rode sure felt weaker.

About $70.00 in parts all total, counting the new filter

What it comes down to is they all do the same thing, which is allow more air flow for the engine to breathe better. And the bottom line is how much you are willing to spend on the look you want for YOUR bike

Curt,

I did just like you said... for the "upside down" K&N logo, I bought a nice stick-on decoration to hide it. I've just never used that one yet!

I cleaned my RC 1980 oval with the kit K&N sells. Cleaned right up good, and re-oiled real easy. I love these cheap K&N universal filters, and they look so trick, too!

I'm about ready for the m&g in ME this weekend!

Which stick on did you get? The one that smells like strawberries, or the one that stinks like a pine tree?
