Interesting fact 12 Months ago

Here a while back we discussed the big question that if you change the pipes and put on a big air kit (or equivalent) will the fuel injected bikes (Roadies)run lean (or leaner) and no, they will not.
Here is an interesting fact. With the big air kit the 09' runs a tad richer than with the stock air box (according to the Inovate A/Fr monitor.
Its just a point or two below what it runs with the stock air box, but there is some detectable difference.
It doesn't seem to add any detectable power, but the bike will push you back against the back rest between 40 and 80 under constant acceleration so I don't think more air helps much with power, but it does free up leg room and looks good.
Not that this is an important bit if information, I just thought it was an interesting observation.

when you reference a "point difference" is it a full point or decimal point?

I don't know Erbman, it registers 14.1 to 4.5 instead of 14.1 to 4.7 so I guess that would be a decimal. The averaging light bounces between 14.5 and 14.6 at cruise.
The digital meter constantly changes between 14.1 and 14.5.
It might use a little more gas, but it seems to run the same.

River- I actually get identical readings stock vs. pipes and BAK in 4th and 5th gear over 40mph.... right on the money 14.7 when holding the throttle at steady cruise... I saw the bike run leaner 1st-2nd-3rd gear... from 1-2 points leaner depending on how hard you are accelerating.. Seeing how far the air/fuel mix fluxuates on both the stock and modded bike (11.x - 18.x ) during various acceleration 1st-2nd-3rd gears, running a couple of points leaner witih the mods during initial acceleration is completely meaningless IMHO... the bike runs perfect, is not running any hotter.. and thats all that counts.
I also think the bike runs through the gears quicker on flat out full throttle runs pipes and BAK vs. stock. I'm guessing more air/fuel volume is running through which has got to add a touch more HP... who knows since I haven't dyno'd... could be just those bad a$$ sounding pipes making us think its running better or stronger!
It would be interesting to hear from someone who's dyno'd a FI stock vs. pipes/BAK if any additional power is gained...

Love hard numbers!
Is that using the stock ECU?

Yes. I kept the stock ECU the whole time.. Frankly after going thru this process I still don't understand why folks are going aftermarket ECU unless its for a power gain.... but all the talk abut those aftermarket ECU's isn't centered around a performance increase so very confusing regarding aftermarket ECU's. I'm running Speedstar Long Drags - Pro-R Hypercharger and she's running like a champ''

next time you accelerate, see how rich you get, 13.5 AFR is needed to achieve max Tq. If you can't hit that AFR, then you are losing Tq. WOT should be approx 12.5 to 12.8.

I thought I've actually seen it jump into the 11's before... bike is actually apart and getting painted at the moment but when she's all back together next couple of weeks I'll make note of where the a/f mix is at various throttle and post...

Yeah, I'll get some good numbers today if it don't rain all day.
Seems to me like one of these Inovate wide band 02's would be a great help to all the carb owners. I don't know how long the thing will last with the vibration and all.

I've had mine for a couple yr's now and no problem with the vibration. You are right about it being a good tuning tool and you can tell the moment something changes including exhaust gasket leaking. It will start to go lean erratically on decell well before any popping occurs.
