I will finsih off the front tire first then going to the pirelli front. Nice bike. I want the taller bar in the back for the wife. But the tires first. Paycheck only goes so far with us racing also. Wife says I got too many toys.

I believe there are some who have air rides and it works for them, so the flipped dog bones shouldn't bother it. It's basically the same size tire, maybe an 3/4 to 1 inch taller??

Dyna-beads are pretty easy to find, just google them. They are the best way to balance a tire, unless you use ride on or tire slime, then they won't work.

One more thing no one has mentioned about the CT vs MC tire, you can PLUG it if you get a nail. To me that's important because so many MC tires have been tossed because of a nail.

Pluggung is a big benefit BUT using the spoke wheels and tubes eliminates that option. Reckon my next add on if I can talk the wife into it is some cast wheels. But I like the old school look of the spokes. decisions decisions. Race parts or Bike parts, The doesnt like me spending money on either. Mainly the racing but as long as my son enjoys it its ok.
Again thanks everyone for the input and helpful replies. Your all great!!!

Well then seal your spoked rims and go tubeless.. Some members on here have and thats what im going to do as soon as I replace my ct.

.

Its

What car tire are you running?

Its a B'stone Potenza 185/55/16. It handles outrageously great and I love the way it rides. Only complaint is that its slightly smaller diam than oem which makes it feel like I changed to a smaller front pulley. Its a rocket around town, but I like the higher gearing for cruising at lower rpm. Plus I lost about 3 mpg. But its an excellent tire for someone that mostly rides around town racing from light to light.
"Yax" runs a B'stone Turanza?or something like that...it starts w/a "T", thats talle
r and he likes it. My potenza was the only ct I could find a day before I was leaving for daytona but I found guys using it on the DS site so I tried it. Its a great tire...just a tad too short.

Thanks for the info!

Re:I have gone to the Darkside... 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Well just a report back. Austone is on. Me and my son changed it this morning, dyna beads are not here yet so I left the spoke weight till they come. Was not a bad job at all. In 2 hours I was riding down the driveway. Understand I live in the country and my drive way is 1/4 mile long. Anyhow went for a short ride and was very very impressed. Mind you I quit riding when I was 25. I got the Star in November and had 5000 miles on it since I got it. So I was familiar with the bike. here is what I noticed, improved braking, MUCH smoother ride, handles better than anything I have had on it so far. ONLY difference I noticed was initially it did want to right itself a bit quicker out of a turn. Was I was over that feel 5 more minutes down the road it doesnt even bother me. If the milage is what I hope it to be I wont be going back top a MC tire. I am still running the duncrap 404 I got from bike Bandit once its wore out I will replace with the pirelli tire. Below are a couple pictures of the mornings work with my sone (15) turning some wrenches too.

Re:I have gone to the Darkside... 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I received my Austone tire, 2 weeks ago, had it installed last weekend, and have ridden my commute all week long. I LOVE IT!!! It was a royal pain getting someone to mount it for me, even with the wheel off the bike. Nobody wanted the liability of running a CT on the bike, and even when one guy agreed to mount it, he said there was no way he could balance it. The guy who finally installed it is a small local custom shop. He said it took over 100psi to get the bead to seat. He had his wrench/kid do the work, and shook his head at me as I walked out with my wheel. I asked him what he thought, and he replied that it was the stupidest idea he had ever seen. I asked if he had ever ridden the set-up, or spoken to anyone who had, and he said no, and he never would ride one either because it was a fool-hardy thing to do.

I'll echo Georgeherrin's earlier observations about handling...excellent, especially since I am accustomed to this bike and its feel and characteristics.

My only adjustment will have to be raising the fender back up to factory height to avoid an occasional rub. I did the mod a couple years ago where you chop down the pylons that space the fender up off f the tire. I saved the pieces I cut off, so it's as easy as putting them back in place and running the bolts back thru them.

Here's to MANY more miles on this rear tire!!! Yes, Darth Vader, maybe you ARE my father!!!
