Yamaha vs. Star 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
|
|
Churchdog's post in the other thread reminded me of the time one of my buddies gave me crap about riding a "Star Motorcycle." My reply was simple: "Don't know what you mean, I ride a Yamaha." The end.
Be honest, has anyone here EVER referred to their bike as a Star?
I will never use the name Star, unless its immediately preceded by the word "Road." I think I would go so far as to not buy another one if it's actually badged as a Star. Do you think if enough of us get together we can convince Yami of the error of their ways and change it back?
(I know this post serves no purpose, but I'm procrastinating here. Oh, and if it's been brought up before, try doing a search for the words Yamaha and Star and see how many results you get.)

I call it a Star, just like Victory riders don't say they ride Polaris

You know, the tuning fork logo is better looking to me than the "star" logo.

OK, just JB.. wrote:

Lol good point.
But, Polaris wasn't building bikes under the Polaris name since 1955, and suddenly decided to switch. Yamaha evokes great images in my head of their 70's bikes, their ATVs, heck I even think of their electronics. Star...means nothing to me. Just a giant flaming ball of gas, or the twinkly things kids wish on.
Look at this bike. It's awesome, even for a tiny 1 cyl. Proudly wearing the Yami logo on its tank.

In reality it is just a Yamaha, but they did kind of branch out and dedicated the "Star" line to cruisers

I call it a Star Motorcycle...but really I just refer to it as a Road Star.

It was probably Yamaha's attempt to make their bikes sound more "American" and less Japanese. Unfortunately there's a stigma with the name Yamaha amongst American riders. Fortunately, none of those riders reside on this forum

I'm sticking with "Yamaha".
I love the look on someone's face when I tell them that their Fat Boy (Softail; Dyna:Road Bob;whatever) just got smoked by a Yamaha !!
