Just Changed the oil QUESTION !!!!! Help 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Just changed the oil drained from both plugs and installed a new filter and i put 2 qrts of oil in and started for 15 seconds
then added 2 more qrts of oil started the bike and let it run for 5 mins checked for leaks there were none then turned it off and waited 5 mins and removed the dip stick cleaned it and put it back in without screwing it down then removed it but all the oil i can see on the dip stick is at the bottom mark is this Correct???????
Thx

Thx Guys , first oil change for me the dealer normally does it but i wanted to learn more about it so thought i would do it myself . I was using lucas 20/50 now Motul 300v 15 /50 bike sounded nice when i started it and even my son came out and noticed the difference in sound seems to run smoother less noise , Expensive but i was told it would work great in the roadie

As long as you drained both plugs and put 4 quarts back in, you're good to go. Dipstick checking is near useless.

I've gotten the same reading twice, the dip stick is a joke.
Put 4 Qts in it and forget it till the next change

I have the Yamaha video that shows how to change the oil and the one included here that shows how to check. Great explanations.

And now a question that I've never seen asked or answered: What happens if someone puts more oil in than necessary -- enough cover the dipstick as 'full'? What effect does all of that extra oil have?

It will come out through your crankcase breather. And since it looks like you have a stock air breather, that means it will come out there. there have been cases where it started dripping from the bottom of the air filter.
It can also get sucked into the carb

Never knew that, Tug. Thanks!

That may explain why I was finding some oil residue around the idle right after I bought it and BEFORE I changed the oil and oil filter.
