Not a bad idea to have a repair pack always stowed away on bike.

It just reminds me to spray a little silicone lube down the sheath

Seems there is a higher incidence of broken clutch cables. Mine went on Tuesday. I had ordered the emergency cable repair, but haven't received it yet. Good news, the dealer was able to get me one in 3 days ($30-stock).

Glad you were able to get yours replaced under warranty. Mine lasted 13 years! So no complaints here. I will be sure to maintain this one until I change it to SS.

If its breaking at the lever, take a look at the groove it slides in and check it for sharp edges or burrs. You can easily use a small file or dremel to round off that corner a bit and smooth it up to reduce wear and tear at that point of contact. And as has been mentioned make sure to lube the cable at least once per season.

Old sage told me ,,, weakest place on a motorcycle between motor and pavement , is the clutch, weakest part of clutch is the cable. Spare cable can be rolled up , zip tied, and tucked into the side of a saddle bag, a trip must, because not all shops stock Yamaha cables, no wrenches today know, or have the stuff to make one ,,,,, my bro Kai got lucky one trip to Colorado years ago , and found a old School wrench @ 530 pm on a Saturday .
