Roadstar down, maybe for good 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
|

Dangit, I hate to have to post this. Wife and I went down on the bike monday, slowing down for a red light when all of a sudden the front tire locked up, and I was unable to save her from going down. The good: Wife and I are both ok, couple bruises and a little road rash, was only going about 10 or so by the time the bike dropped. Bad: Insurance company says they are most likely going to total the bike. I'm thinking that's a load of crap for a dented headlight, scraped tank, and bent footpeg, but then again, what do I know?
Just wanted to say thanks for all the great help I have received here, and for the many smiles I have gotten from just hanging out and reading the jokes, banter, and general conversation here for the last couple years. I won't quit riding, just may be bike-less for a while without the star, I sure did love that bike.

Several guys have bought the bikes back from the insurance companies and fixed them. Messed up fork stops will total the frame (in the insurance company's eyes), but they are easily repaired.
Like the Phoenix, she can rise from the ashes.

Ask me about my attention deficit disorder or my pie or my cat. A dog. I have a bike. Do you like TV? I saw a rock. Hi.

First off, glad you're gonna be OK.
What basis are they using to total your bike? Last year I was rear ended and needed a new fender, sub frame, tail light assy, and tire. Insurance made no decision on totalling or repairing until they had an estimate from the shop of my choice. Once they had the estimate, they decided to repair. Total cost was around $2,800 inc. labor. From what you describe, repairs shouldnt exceed the value of your bike in my opinion.
If they do total it, they will low ball the value of the bike. That is a negotiable offer and you need to counter it. Insurance companies will screw you any chance they get.

I am not sure what they are basing the decision to total it on yet, considering there has not been an estimate of repair yet. There could be more damage than what I described as well, I was a little preoccupied with the welfare of my wife at the time and only looked the bike over long enough to determine it was not ride-able before my attention was back on the wife, but that was all the visual damage I saw in my one quick scan. Just hoping at this point that I will have the opportunity to buy it back if it is deemed totaled.

Here in This part of Ga., the insurence co. will not let you buy it back if they total it. I know a guy, that a few months ago did the same thing on a V Star (I think). It got the pipes, road bar, right pegs and the bag and they totaled it, it was an '04 I think. It had no tank or structural damage only bolt on stuff and they gave him $3200 for it. I wanted it bad for my 18 yo and offered them $1k and was told not at any price, I could go to the auction and buy it.

Glad that you and your wife are okay, and it sounds like your R* is okay, too.
There isn't a better place anywhere than HERE to get the help you need to get the bike back up and running! Consider it!

My bike has a salvage title because the front stop tab was broken off frame and welded back on no major damage from what I was told that was before I bought it,don't let insurance company push you around sound like easy repairs so hope you can keep it good luck and no you can't get away from the clinic that easy
