First , many of my bros , who my respect is beyond reproach ,,,my father in law , who is a old flat tracker, been riding 60+ years, and put > than 80.000 mi on a Goldwing last year and knows just about everything motorcycle ... .

Have all gone to the dark side , My only question , yet to be answered,, is what are you going to say to the insurance adjuster, lawyer, civil court judge, when they ask you why you modified a motorcycle with a car tire, And you couldn't stop we you t bone that left turning cage and somebody died ???? And nobody want to pay and every bodies pointing fingers.... Sorry if I'm pissing on somebody's campfire, that's not my intention ,,, just asking for discussion, some thought , and maybe a good answer to my question that will fly in court. Maybe there's a lawyer type, insurance adjuster member here that can advise ... Thanks And respect to all no matter how you roll in my book ..rd

Let's see.... I would say that I installed a DOT rated tire on a registered vehicle. Plain and simple. My 2 cents.

Do ya think that answer will hold up in court, or a insurance co denying a claim. Does the DOT/ tire mfg. rate Car tires , OK for MC s

Re:I have gone to the Darkside... 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Roaddogg its a DOT ated tire rated to handle more weight than a bike same size even and shoot this tire rides better way better in fact there is no comparison between it and the mc tire I took off. Not only does it handle and ride better but it even stops better and if some fool turns in front of me close enough I hit him not even a mc tire would have helped me AND an insurance claim is the last of my worries at that point. It would be on surviving and if I do and am able whippin the fool when done. Been riding it all evening and I am telling you this bike has not handled or stopped this good since I have had it. My son whom rode with me this evening even noticed and he is just the passenger. I aint riding a crotch rocket I am riding a cruiser and while my tire choice may not be for others I am 200% pleased with it. And look at the pictures as flat as the MC tire wore its no different in lean than some ct's would be. Anyhow on to my evning ride report.

On another note it took me 280lbs and my son of 240lbs and a rather substantial bump to get a rub out of it. It rubbed the metal cross bar up in the fender. Will tighten the shock spring to stiffen it up a bit. Its all stock at the moment. And as for the the speedo. By the GPS its dead on. Whom ever found this tire thanks its the ticket. Going for another short ride later. Yall have a WONDERFUL DAY!!!

I must be doing something wrong because going over our mountain passes I can get it to rub ten plus times with just me on it (300lbs) and the shock is cranked all the way up on the rear and running 10wt oil in the front. Also the strange wobble is just not getting any better no matter what pressure I run. Started at 45 psi and went down to 40 psi. It gets much worse the lower the pressure is. It feels like the back end is slowly moving side to side. I thought it was just the way it is but after reading that everyone else SEEMS to have no such issues or just will not admit that it does it to them also. Any help would be great. So far not very happy with the Austone .

Lemmie tell you my friends, I have been at , participated in a bunch of dark side talk ,,, visited the site,, and I know a little bit about tires,,, but still in all the talk,, no one addresses liability,

Let's just say somebody dumps a bike, somebody dies,, I already know insurance companies get real nervous when people start talking mods ,safety and liability wise , check your MC policy ,, even if everything is better , safer because of the mod, can prove it , is there unbiased published opinion , will the tire manufacturer back you, will the shop that mounted the tire go to court with you ,,,Can a civil jury be convinced. Sure if there's another dark siderer on the jury,,, but if it's a bunch of cagers,, and somebody starts talking modifying motorcycles and using parts involved in safety not designed for a motorcycle ..
Maybe a lawyer could give us a answer.
Personally I think you could run a tractor tire on a MC and still be safe if ya know how to ride, just like shooting pool with a mop handle,, if your good , it probably dont matter ,,,just don't know if I could defend it , or beat my bro at pool with a mop handle ..

I while riding the bike with my son on it rolled the bike left n right several times like I was zig zagging through cones, it was very stable the only differerance I can describe that I truly noticed right off was it wanted to up right itself a bit quicker off the corners. Other than that I have yet to feel any adverse traits. I am runniong 36 lbs on the nose because that seemed to be what most found felt best. I have yet to try any other pressures yet. keep in mind I only been back riding since November. I am not one that has tons of miles or experiance of late. BUT i do 5000 miles on this bike before the ct conversion.

Its no different than a pickup with a lifted suspension and off road tires that runs over the top of a VW bug and kills somebody. It had DOT rated tires and if it passes the state safety inspection there is no issue with the vehicle just the driver. Same as with modified tuner cars,a lot of the mods are not authorized by any of the car makers, but you very seldom hear of the modification as the issue mostly the driver. Just my 2 pennies.

This issue has been addressed several times on previous threads, and yes lawyers have chimed in on it.

Long and short is that it IS a DOT tire and the proper size for your scoot. You would have more problems with APES or a FAT tire, modified suspension like Air Ride than you ever will about the tire.

If your in doubt, ask your insurance agent, and have them put it in writing.

My tire is AWESOME! Stops better and handles better than stock. Period!
