Whats my bike worth? 11 Months, 1 Week ago
Ok guys here is my question I am trying to sell my bike and just want to know what you all think about what i am asking for it. I think it's a good deal with the low miles and all the extras but everyone keeps lowballing me from craigslist. I am asking 9500 (also have it listed here in the classifides if you want to see a picture)and keep getting offers of 7,500 - 8,000. I had one offer for 8,500 and a few really low ones that where less them 5k. Am I asking too much or is everyone just hoping to pick it up cheap. Let me know what you think......

Ian

2008 Yamaha Roadstar S in great shape with lots of extras.
I would have to look but the milage is very low around 4,000 or so.
Here are all the extras I can thnik of.
Silverado windsheild with quick disconect
Handlebar riser and pullback (just a couple inches so your not reaching for the bars)
Yamaha studded Solo Seat with matching passenger seat (comfortable wide bottom not the narror stock type)
Yamaha high back rest with studded chusion to match seats.
Yamaha passenger floorboards.
Yamaha studded saddle bags also have a second set of brand new bags in the box same as what is on the bike.
Yamaha speedstar air cleaner.
HK 3" big straight pipes (the ones that are guarenteed not to blue)
Yamaha Big Bar Engine Guard.
Kuryakyn adjustable offset highway pegs.
Power Commander
Chrome Fender tips
I think that might be it.
All these addons where dealer installed when I bought the bike.
Paid over 16K for everything 2 years ago and have not put many miles on it.
I also pretty sure I have the original seats and exhaust pipes for the bike if interested.

The hardest part now is trying to find anyone with any money. A lot of people want to buy but they don't have cash and their credit is usually trashed. So what a bike is "worth" and what you might "get for it" are not always figures that are close. Good luck tho, it sounds like a lot of bike!

I bought my 08 3 months ago with 6300 miles on it. I paid $6200 but it didn't have all the add ons yours has. Good luck selling it and I hope you get a decent price but times are a little tough right now. A lot of people aren't spending money they don't have to.

Bluebook will tell you you're bike, in stock condition is worth about $7500. It really doesn't matter what you have in it unless you are talking high performance mods and then they are still only worth pennies on the dollar.

If the 16k you are talking about has any labor associated with it you should consider subtracting that from your total to give your self a better idea of what you have into it.

But, in my opinion, you are asking too much for the bike. The low milage is nice, and the things you have on it are also, but the reality is that someone is selling your bike for a lot less out there somewhere.

A Brand New 2012 starts at $13 and a half K , and the value drops steeply right after purchase. Your bike is 4 years older than that. You didn't mention if you purchased the bike new or used. I am assuming new based on the price you paid

In 2008 I purchased a 5 year old Silverado for 7k, there were others out there that were newer for 2k less, but the 2003 had what I was looking for on it. So you may still find a buyer for yours in your asking range simply because it has what someone might be looking for but you may have to wait for that.

$9500 is a great place to start, but, since you asked, I think it's a bit steep if you are motivated to sell your bike.

High retail in my zip. Florida is $7,800 on an 08'. Not going to get a dime for the add ons. Good Luck with your sale, at least you are getting calls. Lots of folks trying to sell right now don't get any offers at all. Call the guy back with the 8,500 offer and see if its still good. You should have jumped on that one.

I did look at your add and to be honest I know you have alot of add ons but unless the buyer wants that stuff its not realy gunna add value just ”curb appeal” sort of like a real nice yard when your selling your house, it pretties it up and gets the attention but dont add much. If I was in the market (and I do want a FI roadie) I would offer you somewhere between 7500 and 8000. Not to slap you in the face but its a buyers market and I know there is alot of other nice roadies out there too for that price. Again no disrespect but thats my opinion if I had cash in hand and wanted to buy a roadie.

It is worth what someone is willing to pay.
Cash in hand talks, everything else is just cheap talk.

Recently I went thru the same process you are now experiencing. I had the same results; alot of looky-loos making rediculous offers. I then went to several dealers. I have an '07 in immaculate condition with many of the same options added. The trade-in offers were all below $4k. One dealer, a Yamaha dealer, told me to "take all the extra stuff off" and sell the bike "naked". He offered just $3k for it. By the way he had a '09 with way more mileage on it for $9k on the showroom floor. I just wanted to move up to a Stratoliner but eventually gave up. Fortunately, I didn't have to sell for financial reasons. I guess the only thing I might suggest would be to consign it, if you could find a reasonable dealer to work with. We are all in the same spot on value. Best of luck in your quest.
