Chirp from the front end 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Lately, I've noticed a "chirp" coming from the front end of the bike. Has anyone experienced this? I will be pulling the front tire off and checking the bearings to see if there is an issue there.

1) Any experience?
2) Can I grease the bearings (it won't hurt, right?)
3) How often should bearings be replaced? ($15.00/ea seems like a nominal maintenance item).

Thanks,
Jim

Jim is it chirping steady with rotation, or maybe on a rough road when the suspension is working? If its rotational, make sure your brakes aren't making the sound along with the bearings. If not there, possible the front end is squeeking when the fork suspension is doing its thing.

maybe a bird is stuck in the triple trees.

I have never had this "chrip" before so I'm not going to be a lot of help. It does sound like changing the bearings would be a good and inexpensive place to start. If nothing else you have new front wheel bearings. you could always repack them too here is an older post http://roadstarclinic.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,187/func,view/catid,58/id,462575/

Re:Chirp from the front end 11 Months ago
Update! I replaced my bearings today. The left one had a bit of rust and wobbled. I think I found my chirp. Just went for a test ride and it rode smooth as can be!!!! This after a 775 mile weekend that could have been a bad situation.

I did find a missing screw on my headlight that added to my confusion of where the noise was coming from (good call on that one).

Very happy camper now.
