Engine (oil tank) level? 11 Months, 1 Week ago
I was reading another thread, where guys were saying not to put 4.5 qrt's. of oil in the bike, cause it will puke it out, so the question is, where on the dip stick is the ideal place for the oil level? Mine currently is smack in the middle. That's dipped, and not screwed down, I pull the stick, wipe it clean, with the bike off the kick stand, then dip it, and I'm in the middle, after engine is warm, of course.

1/2 way is ideal. However when you change oil no more than 4 qts should be added. There's more in there in the channels that won't drain unless flushed out. This makes up for the factory specs. Questions on changing the oil? Lotsa threads on that one.

Leave it and ride it where it's at for about 15 min and then re-check. Should be in the middle when the bike is stood up at 90 degrees to the ground.

As Smoke said there are many here that don't bother to check the oil. #1 reason is these bikes don't burn oil and #2 it is such a pia to check it.
I just changed mine a couple of days ago and after 4000 miles I got out just what I had put in, 4 qts.

Mine is at around 2/3 of the stick with the 4 quarts and a quick fire-up to circulate. Still puts a little oil up in the filter housing. Maybe my cheap butt should stop draining them oil bottles so hard!

And if you check it again, it'll be a different level than before. A lot of us have gotten different readings each time we checked. That's why we say put in only 4 qts. and not to worry about it. (unless you see blue smoke from your exhaust, or oil leaking from some place) Enjoy your ride.

Thanks everyone, I just got home from work (40 min ride), let it idle for 30/45 seconds, shut it off, popped the seat, and checked the oil...it showed overfull, and I read someplace that if they are overfilled, they will puck it out, I don't have any oil messes, so I'm going with its ok!!

After watching smokes video again, I don't think I let it idle long enough, cause it showed overfull...
